There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I was at my dealer yesterday and spoted a black leather Can-Am Jacket. It was sized extra large but it fits great! My wife bought it for me for Christmas, it was on sale for $200, Marked down form $449. How does leather handle rain, Is there something I should treat it with?

Thanks,

Randy

My leather jacket is 12 years old, I only use it in the winter, Rain /snow doesn't hurt it at all , But it is a real Motorcycle jacket lined and armored and made to protect you if you hit the ground hard, Every now and then i just spray it with a leather cleaner. I try not to mess with it too much, Don't want it to lose it's character :D

...Other than loving care???
I've got a Hein Gerrike Dakar jacket that I've used for almost 30 years... I lather it up with some Neet's foot oil about once a year...
What does a "Neet" look like anyway??? :dontknow:

The BRP leather jackets are very nice. I am going on year #3 for mine--no problems.

Leather is not inherantly waterproof--but you have to be in a LOT of rain before it will soak through.

For protection there are two products that I find work very well.

As Bob D mentioned--neatsfoot oil works well--applied once to twice a year. This gives the leather a water "repellancy" rather than a water proofing. Neatsfoot is "industrial grade" leather treatment. I usually reserve this for my leather riding boots.

My product of preference is Lexol. It is not as heavy or oily as the neatsfoot oil, but conditions and treats the leather well--without the "greasy" effect. I use this product on my chaps, vests, gloves, and leather jackets.

A word of caution: The leather oils (neatsfoot, lexol, etc)--have a tendancy to darken leather. On black--it is not a problem--if you have light or tan stuff--you should give it a try in an inconspicuous place before using it. Especially if you have bought the new RTS with the tan seat. For that, I would recommend saddle soap or glycerin saddle soap as a treatment. I would also recommend pre-testing in an inconspicuous place before coating the seat or light colored item.

I have been Lexoling a natural colored holster since day one--it is now a beautiful russet tan color.

I also have a 30 year old Hein Gerike jacket which looks new. I always wear that one when I am riding my Vulcan.

I have had leather before be it I got caught in a thunder storm it would soak right through such as last year just outside of Reno Nevada coming from the north. Thanks for the info all :-)

+1 on the Lexol, at least for general leather cleaning and conditioning. For making leather gloves and jackets more waterproof, I like to use Nikwax. They also have a good cleaner that can be used before application of their conditioner.

Neets are small little creepy critters that leave a mess wherever they go.

I figured that they were really packing a set of gunboats for superior stability...
Do their feet sweat the oil out or does harvesting involve something a bit...intrusive??

I'd hate to think of all those Neets rolling around in wheelchairs...:yikes:

Seriously though... I never tried Lexol; I knd of figured that the Neets and their oil was a heavy-duty solution for a heavy-duty situation!:2thumbs:

A Neet is simular to a Nauga.........as in Nauga hide......

some leather jackets are treated to be waterproof like the top of the line for HD. i have had their jacket midweight in poring down rain and stayed completely dry. it also has a liner I think that breathes and makes it waterproof?

I had a first gear jacket when i first started riding and it was NOT waterproof. the dye in the leather made my arms look like I had them tattooed when it bled thru ... that sucked.

BRP jackets maybe waterproof or at least water resistant. have to check the tags on the jacket you got. but +1 on the Lexol. find it at pepboys.
