New Guy on Left Coast - picked up our new F-3 S!

After getting all the forums help with deciding on which bike to get and going to the thread about new riders (Boy was that hard to do for an ex-racer, crew chief, yada, yada) and what a huge help that was. Just the part about not hanging on too hard really made a difference!

So short/long story is my wife and I went and picked up our new F-3 S from Stacy at the dealer in Dublin, Calif. Wife had a competition for her dog Tippy, so she went on to Lodi while I rode the new Spyder home to Petaluma. It was the first time I had really ridden one of these machines for more than 2 or 3 miles so the 60 mile trip was eye opening. Love the thing, reason than you are the totally unique vehicle on the road. This said it's a blast to ride but it will take some miles to really ride it anywhere it's potential. It must have taken 30 miles until I had gotten to where I could relax. I have the quicker corners down pretty much but the slow turns..... well, let's say that could be done with a wee bit more grace.

Thanks again for all the great advice. Truly happy to be riding the F-3

Cheers!

Well I'm not much of a picture taker. If I get time later in the coming week I'll see what I can do LOL I'm just so old all I have is a flip phone so for me it's kind of a special deal. Then I have to figure out to get it from a camera to the computer then from the computer to the forum. Got lucky with the race track pics so I'll give it another shot.

Cheers

~~~first of all you need someone to host your photos. Not recommending them but, I have been using Flickr prolly for a dozen years. They’re free up to a point then when you have accumulated X amount of pics there is a monthly fee. At first Flickr was very economical then they were bought & sold a few times. IIRC I’m paying around $10/month for them to host my pics. You likely can do better, which is why I’m not recommending Flickr. Anywho, find a site to host your pics (preferably for free) and try it out. S’not hard to use. Like anything else, there is a learning curve getting used to software but basically you download their app and use it. I have the Flickr app on both my phone (Apple SE) and my iPad (4th generation 12.9”). For instance, I can take a pic w/my phone and clicking on the Flickr app icon where the photos are, brings up the ability to post the pic along with a host of other functions like where to put verbiage, tags, on and on. Once you get used to whichever system you’re using, its as simple as turning your phone on and off, and I’m not techy so if I can do it, so can anyone else. Have fun above all else. Life is beautiful
~~~congrats for taking the first major step which is actually acquiring a machine (Can Am Spyder) to ride. Best advice I could offer to you, forget about playing Ricky Racer on your new toy. Ride it sensibly (remember you’re riding on public streets and roads, not a race track) & lawfully for a few thousand miles so as to get to know & learn the machine. You can get in over your head quickly since these machines will lull you into a false sense of comfort & control. Recall the fable of the tortoise and the hare=:-)

LOL Jake you were speaking to me in a foreign language. So is a "flickr app for dirty pictures now I do eat an Apple SE (super energy) every day but you missed the part where I only have a flip phone and I don't think it even takes pictures. Gota go for now need to feed the horses so I can ride to town.....OH ! I can ride my new Spyder if I can figure how to get it started and into reverse.

Cheers Mate.

I will take it easy. In my youth I did a lot of testing of Race Cars so I do know to sneak up on speed. Learned right off that these vehicles have push because of the design much like a sled has. They also like a relaxed hand on the bars so they can find their own way. Putting about is my plan and thanks for the advice. Cheers

If you have the pics on any device that you can link to the internet, you don't need to load them to a host site in order to put them up on the Forum, you can load them direct to this Forum thru Reply to Thread or Manage Attachments and we'll look after them! :thumbup: If you want to know how....

There's this video:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...g-Pictures-from-your-hard-drive-on-this-board

Or this thread:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?139650-How-do-I-post-pictures&p=1583820

And these threads for sideways pics:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?105067-Pictures
https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?147359-Profile-Signature-and-Picture

Or this quote:

Hi Willie, I've moved your thread into the Forum Support & Testing area, which I reckon is a much more appropriate spot for it. ;) . As for your question, see the Sticky at the top of this section from Lamonster, the Forum owner/founder, & watch the vid in that for a pretty good guide on how to add a pic to your posts. :2thumbs:

Briefly, there are a couple of ways to do this - the first is to click on the little picture frame icon that's usually the third in from the right hand edge of the icons up the top of the 'Quick Reply' box's menu bar, then follow the prompts & buttons, the vid explains in more detail. The second & IMHO, while it may be a bit longer, it's the better way to add pics/images simply because the board software looks after more of the incidentals for you & then displays thumbnails for viewers to expand if they wish, is to either 'Go Advanced' (button down the bottom right of the 'Quick Reply' screen or the screen that comes up if you hit the '+ Reply to Thread' button) & then scroll down past the text box until you find the 'Attachments' block where you should hit the 'Manage Attachments' button, which will bring up a full page that allows you to Upload Files from your Computer or Upload Files from a Website, altho I'd recommend you only add a maximum of Five (5) pics/images etc to any one post, simply so that those with small screen devices or connections that don't have quite the same bandwidth or display capabilities as some can get to see your posts too! If you want to put up more than 5 pics/images, just load up the first post with the first 5, submit it, check to see it's displaying those 5 OK, then post another reply to the thread with the next 5 pics/imagex, & repeat as necessary! :ohyea:

When you use the Manage Attachment method, each pic/image you upload will be listed just above the File Types listing as it's loaded, and once you've got your max of 5 pics loaded & listed for that post, if you hit the 'Close this Window' button right down the bottom of the page, it'll take you back to the Reply to Thread screen so you can check/insert the text, preview the post (Preview Post), or submit the reply (Submit Reply) :yes:

Give me a yell if you have any hassles. :thumbup:

Me, I'd go with the Manage Attachments method outlined in the quote above, cos it lets the Forum software take care of most of the issues/problems you might encounter, and it'll let you load pics from your computer files; your camera if it'll link to your computer; your smartphone if that's where you're posting from; or even just a random file on a computer/device somewhere else but you looked up &/or happen to know the URL/address!

And if you have any hassles, you can always PM me or any of the Moderators for help - no guarantees we'll get it to work for you, but I promise we'll TRY! :ohyea:

Ps: Oh.... and I'm sorry ulflyer, but I just remembered - as if it wasn't bad enough when it was your neighbour's 12 y/old sorting out your computer problems for you, but those days are Loooong past!! :lecturef_smilie: . Nowdays, it's far more likely to be your neighbour's 5 y/old :rolleyes: .... or maybe it'll be your 5 y/old nephew!! :gaah: . Please don't ask me how I know this is so, cos I'll hafta refuse to answer that question on the grounds that the evidence would be incriminating..... :opps: :banghead:

DOOO, Thank you for asking how I like my new scooter (not sure why some folks want pictures of a motorbike that they can see on the CanAm web site, I guess it's only proof of life or some such) and to answer you question..............I loved the thing. The handle in a special way that does take some getting used to. I started racing cars driving MG TD's and Bug Eyed Sprites we used to weld up the spider gears in the rear ends to get the power on the ground better. Interestingly enough the F-3 has some of the same idiosyncrasies. What I am saying is that the vehicle wants to go the direction that the rear wheel is pointed. My wife and I have done a lot of snowmobiling and those work sort of the same. After about 35 miles I started to get comfortable and able to watch the sountryside go by. I feel pretty glued to the road in the fast turns but still a wee bit lost in the turns under 30 MPH.
Do you notice the same things that I've found ? The one big jump in comfort was beginning to relax and let the machine do it's own thing. The front wants to search a mite and it feels as if the best technique is to let it do just that within reason.
I really like really like the ride and now it's mostly about finding where all the fiddly things are (horn button, turn signals etc.) so I can ride more and think less.

Hi Deanna, Really do love the ride. There are a few things I'll be changing such as where the brake pedal is in relation to my foot (I get a cramp in my ankle) looks to be an easy fix. I also plan to add foot boards for the same reason; plus it will make it easy for Holly (wife) to hop on and ride the beast with out any adjustments. I plan on also adding heated grips as we hate cold hands. Something you must be aware of being from Vermont. As I said I really hate taking pics so I'll send some when I get some. Even the pictures of our Race bikes and team came from other people who took them and sent them to us................Just lazy I guess. I always think about an opportunity lost just about the time I turn the hot water on in the shower. Never would have made it as a photo journalist.

Cheers !

Hey Rich,

Congrats on the new bike. Noticed that you’re local to me, I’m in Santa Rosa. I’ve been itching to get back into riding and have been looking at a Spyder. Haven’t made the trip down to the local SR dealer yet… it’s a slippery slope. Do you have any experience with the SR dealer? Sounds like you had a good experience with the Dublin dealer.
