• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Guy First Tour.

I had to break the ice and say thanks to all of the fine people here on this board.

My wife Alice and I left home near Des Moines on our new 2012 RT SE5 five days ago. I researched on the net and discovered that South Dakota had some of the finest bike roads in the world. My excitement grew and due to the shared experiences of all of the great contributers here, I felt confident that we could really do this.

Thanks to you all, I learned that BajaRon sway bar is what Spyders crave. I bought it and had it installed by my dealer where I bought my RT. It really delivered as promised. I also bought the 622 trailer to go with my new toy, due to the high approval from this board. I couldn't be happier. I equipped my Spyder with passenger arm rests, highway pegs and a rider back rest due to the recommendations of this board's members. I learned what to take with me on an extended trip, as well as what to leave home. I learned to overcome the dreaded death grip as well.

Thanks to you all, my wife and I are having more fun than we could have possibly imagined at this point in our lives! Luckily we haven't had any problems so far with our Spyder. Just went over 2000 miles and have become one with this machine. Such a joy to ride. I feel confident that I can deal with any problem we might encounter during our journey.

:welcome: looks like you had a great trip and you hit all of the must do attractions. It seems like you have everything set up pretty well on your bike to enjoy many more miles. Have fun

Welcome...........

..........and thanks for posting your trip pictures. Sounds like you had a great trip.

South Dakota, eh? Off Tangent: Cousin Ron was a Trooper with the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He stopped a couple from Chicago for speeding back in the early 70's, and they had never been out of Chicago. Cuz just warned for the speeding, and, in politically incorrect regalia, thought he'd have a little "fun" with the folks from Chicago.

Cuz told them that there had been an Indian uprising, just ahead, so they should be on the lookout. The couple from Chicagoland were mortified--and seriously so. The couple thought Cuz was on the level with his warning about an uprising, and in short order told Cuz that they were planning to turn around at the next exit, and they were going to head back to Chicago. It was all Cuz could do to convince them that he was only joking around. I don't know all the details of his convincing, but Cuz got 'em to continue on their trip through South Dakota.

Cousin Ron eventually was promoted to Station Commander, Sioux Falls Detachment, which is where he retired from. Ahhhhhh, the memories. Back On Tangent: Congratulations on your successful and enjoyable trip! <M>

Growing up a a spending the majority of my life in Iowa I kind of feel silly now for never having visited this neighboring state previously. Quite a beautiful place and so much to see and do. Maybe I was just "saving it" for our maiden shakedown cruise.

Love the setup. Will be ordering a trailer soon.

Where did you get your backrest?

Looks like a fun trip. Congrates on Spyder and glad to know another locale rider. We are trying to get a central Iowa spyder group together. We are meeting at Hicklin Powersports July 13 from 11 am-1pm. Hope to see you there.

I'll get the model info when we return to Des Moines. I ordered through Hicklin Powersports at the same time I bought the Spydee.

:welcome: And you even got the color right!! :congrats:
Great pictures of your trip; I really like your Tee-shirt that mentions seeing all the "cool bands".

Welcome and I can understand from the photos why you're having such a good time. What may be mundane to many is absolutely splendid to others. I'm one of the latter.

Welcome, sounds like you are having fun. Lots to see in SD for sure. We were there last year and stayed in Spearfish. Spearfish canyon was a beautiful ride as well as Vanocker canyon south out of Sturgis. Get over to Devils Tower in WY if you get a chance. Enjoy,Enjoy.

Thank you so much for posting those great pictures. When I lived in MN and WI, I used to visit SD at least once a year and enjoyed those same attractions.

If you did not already, I also recommend to add Custer State Park, the Needles Highway, Sturgis, Deadwood, and Devil's Tower.

Needles highway, icebox canyon, Vanocker canyon and devils tower were my favorites. The badlands were neat but it was too damn hot when we were out there

I'm glad you're enjoying your trip. Thanks for posting your pics. I've been to those places, but not since college and not on a spyder! So many places, not so much travel funds.
