NEW Full RT cover rated in Catolog for Trailering

Has anyone tried the new full heavy duty cover, that in the Catolog states that it can be used for trailering your bike? It has felt everywhere underneath, that it would come in contact with the bike or windshield. It takes 2 people to get it on, it fits so tight, even has a zipper at the rear where the antenna comes through. Then it has straps that go underneath that you can pull any additional slack out of the cover. Just wondering if I would get any wear spots on the bike from the cover flapping, anybody have any experience with this cover. Seems like if BRP advertises that it is O.K. For traveling, they would be sticking their neck out if it caused wear spots on the RT. Thanks in advance for any an all input.

full cover

I have the Full Cover I use it for the winter, I think it's great. I don't trailer the bike anywhere so I don't know how that would affect it. I wouldn't think it would considering how tight the cover is on the bike.

Since I do not have a garage to my Rt in I have and use this cover all the time except in winter and then RT is put in dealers indoor storage. The cover is great at first it was tight to get on the spyder but as time passed the cover got molded to fit the spyder . I can put the cover on by myself. I start by putting the cover over the windshield first and then work my way to the front covering mirrors second and then nose last. then move to back and put cover over rear back rest I snap the straps on before I attempt to do up the zippers . The zippers are a bit of a trick to get started. Then I put the straps under the spyder to snug the cover tight. I do not trailer my spyder.

I would suggest that if you are going to trailer with the cover on the spyder I would make sure that the cover is snug esp where the top of the windshield is concerned. Any flapping will cause cover rash.

Overall I like the cover for me its well worth the money

I just got one and I think that they're pretty well-designed and should do a great job of keeping the weather off of an RT either at rest or while trailering!

I have used the cover twice and both times had to rub and wax out dark spots. When I spoke to a BRP person at Daytona, was told it had not been tested on a white LTD and probably should not use it unless I covered bike with cellophane. Took two hours to wax these out from numerous places on bike.

Cover for Trailering

I put one on for the first time heading to Spyderfest last year. I spent a lot of time and had it on properly and withing 50 miles it had torn apart at the seams on both sides. It looked like the sewing at the seams had just come apart. Then after it did the thin fabric ripped. I took it back to the dealer and he said it was not made for trailering so I printing the description about if off BRP's website so they sent it back to BRP and they sent me a new one. I don't think I will trailer with it again. I have had many personal watercraft covers over the years and trailered with all of them with no problem. Maybe the one I had was just not sewn properly. I dont know but I know my first one was not capable of being used while trailering.

My wife has had a lifetime's experience with sewing stuff, from army tents to baby's pyjamas and plenty in between. She says that waterproof material that is large enough to cover a vehicle, yet light and thin enough to be conveniently folded up and carried with you, is usually thin and plastic-based. Like most plastic sheeting, it is severly weakened by having the needle of a sewing machine perforate a line of holes along it and because of this, and unlike a woven fabric, it will readily rip along the stitching line of a seam. One way of adding strength and overcoming its inherent weakness is to bond or glue a woven tape to one or both sides of the seam before stitching commences. Without tape reinforcement a plastic sheet has little strength. :sour:

After-action report for trailering the cover

Copy of my Novermber post ----

"Hey, all.... Back in June I started a thread about the custom BRP cover for the RT. What the discussion boiled down to was would the cover damage the paint while underway. Opinions went both ways and there was no clear consensus.

After using the cover extensively for 4 months in North Carolina and Georgia (rain and shine), I can report without a doubt that the cover is harmless. Turned out to be a very intricate design which was well executed. A fleece lining on the interior protects the surfaces. The only mod I made was a bungee wrapped just below the windshield to keep the cover from flapping at 75MPH. I was (and am) impressed with the quality of the workmanship and materials. Use it with no fear..."

Spyder Shutting off by itself

I have a 2012 RT limited that is about 3 weeks old and it shuts down on me after only idling about 5 minutes. Also shut off on my while engaged in reverse at about 1 mph. I've taken i tto the dealer twice and finally left it there until they fix it or replace it with one that is not shutting down. Is anyone else have problems like this one. The dealership also tells me that the bike is not throwing any codes when they hook it up to their laptop. Any recommendations?

Even though the documentation on-line says its Ok to trailer with, the directions that came with mine specifically say "Do not tow vehicle with cover on" This is on page 3/4 on the bottom right. Just saying....:yikes:

Correct you are....

Back in June 2011 I sent a letter to BRP with a copy of the instructions you have. With virtually no comment, BRP responded with revised instructions which made no reference to not using the cover while underway. Since the new verbage did not prohibit the use I went ahead and tried it. Had the paint been damaged, my attorney would have had a new project since the product is marketed as a cover for trailering. But as I reported in November, the cover performed flawlessly.

The travel cover that came with my 2010 RTS is the same instructions that came with the full BRP cover .:popcorn:
