• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Hi everyone!

Name's Geoff or OJ and I live south-east of London in Kent near the ancient village of Aylesford which
dates back to about the 10th.Century!

Been ridin' bikes since forever...well almost 50 years anyway. My back has been giving me more than
a little pain during the last several years and so I bought a Spyder RS-S.

It's a 2010 model in Pearl White. The previous owner had a great many accessories fitted rode it for
less than 300 miles and sold it back to the dealer!

All I got to do know is learn how ride it comfortably and safely. I've fitted Heli-Bars to give me a more
upright stance.

Obviously any advice from you guys would be very welcome!

Ride safe!

OJ

Welcome to SpyderLovers and to the world of Spydering. :welcome: I guess the biggest thing is to relax when riding the Spyder and forget what you know about riding a 2 wheeler. The two machines are completely different except they both get you out on the road and in the fresh air. Learn to get comfortable on the Spyder and know that it is a safe and exciting machine to operate and very addictive. If you are like me you will probably be a little apprehensive about cornering and wonder if this 3 wheeler will stay upright in the early days of riding it, but as you gain experience you will find that the Spyder will take you thru the corners as well as any 2 wheelers did albeit in a completely different manner. Like I said it is very addictive. Have fun and just take things slow and let yourself gain confidence and again welcome to our world of Spyderdom!!:ohyea::thumbup:

Welcome

Good advise from the post above. If you are new to the spyder (sounds like you are) I would go to a large parking lot after hours and practice doing figure eights, stopping and starting, go in circles, test out the brakes such as doing a few panic stops etc.
the more you practice the more confidence you will have in real world driving. I have an RT so it will be a little different than the RS but I am sure all the basics are the same. Good luck and congradulations on your Spyder. You Will enjoy.

Stan
P.S.
this is the best place on the net to be and you will find volumes of advise and help. All you need to do is ask, good people here.

Hi OJ, I hope you really enjoy the Spyder. Just for your own info, we have a Spyder group in the UK! With a number of active members. If you follow the link above, it gets you to the forum site.
we usually meet on line on a Monday evening around 8:00pm, for a natter, and possibly arrange a meet.
the next one that a few are tying to get to is Ace Cafe in north London on 4th March (weather being dry)
Here's hoping you can join the UK forum, and we can get together sometime

Peter

:welcome:. I have actually been to your village many times; used to work in Bristol so have cruised through UK quite a bit. Very nice and quite, as far as I can remember. Enjoy your new Spyder!

Practice makes perfect..!!

:congrats: :welcome: Just practice and you will find the adjustments you have to make to handle a spyder. You will be out and hugging a highway in no time and loving it...

Welcome to the Spyder family, Geoff! You have came to the right place to learn anything and everything about your Spyder.

Marty

:welcome: and:congrats: it'll probably take a week or so before you FINALLY let go of the bad (2 wheeler) habits and begin to really enjoy your Spyder. Loosen up on the handlebar grips, relax your sholders, and give the bike her head! She'll straighten herself out and give you one hell of a ryde!

Hi OJ - Welcome to Spyder ownership esp as UK Numbers are small compaired to the USA/Canada but hopefully this will change as more spyders are seen on UK Roads

I am a member of the UK SPYDERWEB Clan as mentioned earlier

You mentioned your back giving a little pain - You may want to invest in a back rest - I have an RT -S and fitted a Utopia backrest
which is great for allowing you to sit back and relax whilst riding
The spyder will take sometime to get use to many say 500 - 1000 miles
I have just under 10,000 miles on mine - Have been to Germany and Scotland on trips and can't wait for the Spring/Summer season to come again although with 3 wheels I do tend to ride all year round

Hope you join us sometime

Hi Geoff,

I was originally from Bedfordshire but left in '65. Rode motorcycles for 54 years before deciding I was having difficulty moving them around & holding them up when stopped.

Bought my '08 GS last June & it was also 1 owner & returned to the dealer with only 100 miles on it in 4yrs.

I personally had a heck of a time getting used to riding the Spyder but after 3000 miles I am reasonably at ease on it now.

I found the instructional CD that came with it very helpful. Played it a few times then went into a large parking lot early one Sunday morning & did all the excercises it showed. Felt much more confident after that.

Same as you, I fitted bar extensions (Kewl Metal) to give me a more upright stance & have just finished making floorboards as to purchase them was a ridiculous cost.

Hope you get a lot of pleasure in your excursions. I will be snowed in until the end of March at least.
