• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We're not owners yet, but I wanted to jump in and start talking Spyders with what looks like a great group of riders!

We're in Clearwater and we've been to three dealers so far: West Coast, Barney's, and Cycle Springs. Any anecdotal info from anyone?

I'm 62 and still hear the call of the open road. I had three Hondas over the three years I was stationed on Oahu in the USN, '70-'73. My son bought a 2003 Gxr 600 and let me ride it some here in Fla. before it was stolen.

My wife has MD (weakened legs) and has always wanted to ride a bike, so this is her first real chance. On a recent visit to Barney's, she was able to climb up on an RTS all by herself, so she's really excited about the prospects of even solo rides!

We're also Segway PT owners and have two i2s. So we're thinking of having a custom trailer made to haul them. We might even get a small generator to mount on the trailer so they can charge while we're riding.

When I was at West Coast, I met an owner who had his Spyder in the shop. He told me about an after-market hand brake that could be installed. Darlene would be interested in that as her hands are very strong.

Looking forward to making a lot of Spyder friends and going on rides in the near future!

:welcome: to the site.

It sounds like :spyder2: may be the solution to continuing riding. I have owned three and have over 50,000 accumulated miles. One was manual shift and the other two semi auto.

Lots of decisions to make. Which model--RS or RT. Think sport bike (RS) or touring bike (RT).

Which transmission: SM5 (manual) or SE5 (semi-auto).

Spouse is probably going to like RT with SE5. I have been driving two wheelers for years, and never mised the manual shifting when I switched over to the SE5.

I suggest test riding both models and transmission styles to find out what you like best.

I am not a big person on lowball price. I prefer to purchase my motorcycle from the dealer that has the best servicing reputation (and hopefully close to my location).

There are good and bad servicing dealers out there. There is a thread of recommended (preferred) dealers--use the search engine. Someone may post a link for you on this.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Many others will also chime in. Let us know what you decide.

:welcome: I am looking as well to get a spyder later this spring. This is a great resource to learn about all the nuances of the spyders and all the extras people install to personalize their rides. Welcome and start reading the different forums. You will be amazed at how helpful everyone will be to discuss all things spyder.

New Spyder owners

Hello there, my wife and I waited over a year to purchase after taking the test ride back in December 2010. We purchased 2012 RTS-SE5 last month and are just loving every minute we ride. We joined the Central Florida Spyder Club and this makes it even more enjoyable to be with so many others who enjoy riding. The big plus is in meeting new friends, we purchased from Central Florida Power Sports, and the have another location in Clearwater. They have been recognized as the largest Spyder dealer in the "US". Maybe you should check them out.
