• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New dealer in the area (Central Coast of California)

I recently heard from a fellow Spyder folk that there's a new dealer in my area. Central Coast Yamaha. (They also sell Suzuki, Polaris/Slingshot, and other products)

They are a relatively small dealership with a good local reputation.

So, yesterday I went in and verified this to be accurate. They signed the paperwork April 1st. However, after signing the paperwork the owner has taken ill, so it's kind of stalled for the moment, and because of that there's been no publicity or roll-out etc for now. At this point they have one Spyder mechanic (unknown what certification so far) and one sales guy whose trained on the BRP line. Neither of these guys was available for me to personally speak to when I was in there.

However, they have been a first rate small dealership so I do expect good things.

The biggest reason I post this is for those that travel, you have a new resource should it become necessary. Since Hwy 1 is in our backyard this will be the only dealership that I know of between Los Angeles and the Bay Area. So if you're passing through Santa Maria, be sure to stop into the dealership and at least show the flag so we can encourage the brand and their decision to carry our products.

Good to know...

Always good to hear of new dealers as we have lost a few along the way...

Thanks for this - good info.

That's great news. I have a place in Santa Ynez (30 miles away) and have been in a number of times, although just for gloves and that kind of thing - they are more limited than some of the larger shops. They also have a large Harley dealership next door, which I think is the same ownership.

FYI, In Ventura there is also Cal Coast Motorsports - 60 miles north of Los Angeles.

Cal Coast is my local dealer. They have had a bad reputation in the past, but from my experience they are trying very hard to change that. The service department is always friendly and will take the time to look at something or answer questions. The store staff has become very friendly . I didn't get the best deal on my bike, but that was my fault, I payed initial asking price for my lightly used (125 miles) 2015 F3 without bargaining. So that's on me, not them. I was talking to the manager when my bike was in for service and he said they were really trying to increase their Spyder sales numbers ny aggressive pricing and good service in the store and service department.

Nah, different owners. The Yamaha is a locally owned business. The Hog Chapter is corporate out of LaLa Land. However, they did try to buy the Yamaha line up in an attempt to drive the local guy out of business, however their plans were scuttled by Yamaha themselves. (long story)

Also, the Hog Chapter is multi-brand, but if it isn't H-D or a ranch quad they could care less. They're mostly a H-D clothing and accessory outlet, well, not really, but that's how they treat the business. (long story with that too)

i went by the Central Coast dealership today, and they are now officially a Spyder dealership, although they only had one unit on the floor (they said that had more in crates, and no room to display more - it is a small place). They are getting 5000 more square feet by the end of the summer, and I think that's when they will have something meaningful on the floor.

Apparently, the HD dealership has told others it's the same ownership, which is why I thought that was the case, but it apparently isn't true.

Central Coast says they are trained up on servicing Spyder, but for now I'd use them in a pinch until they get more real world experience under their belt (I use Lou, anyway). In any event, the attitude was good, and I'm glad to have them in the area.

My experience with Cal Coast has been mixed, but I'm glad to hear they are upping their game.

It's certainly nice to see the gap being closed between Northern and Southern CA.
