• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm thinking of getting a camper to pull with the Spyder.
I'm not worrying about brand as much as I'm worrying about functionality.
For those of you that have or had one, which features do you think are important and which don't matter.

I have been studying this myself. One resource I found has a GREAT section with links to camper trailers as well as DIY build your own! Check this out... It is all about trailers and motorcycles and has a HUGE link list to trailers with many of them about campers. About 30% of the links they list are dead now but many are still working.

Start there... If you cannot find what your looking for then use Google.. I can actually give you even more links to DIY and others... But start there and ask again if you want more :)

This is one project that I'm not looking to D.I.Y.
I want it light and I figure fiberglass is lighter than wood.
I also worry that if you don't get the wheels just right it will not track correctly.

We camp in a Bunkhouse Camper and love it. It's nice to have a bed off the ground and a stand up dressing room. Check out Bunkhouse motorcycle trailer site and Motocampers .Com, there are 2 used camper for sale.

What should I look for in buying a used one? What are the weak points that break first?
 
Depends on where you camp. Here in the NorthWet, we need to watch joints and seams (seams HAVE to be sealed), and be sure we open the camper to dry, when we get home. In other areas, it might be the canvas, from UV/sun exposure.

I have towed n Aspen Sentry trailer all over the US. I love it! Sets up in a few minutes and comes down quicker. Mine has the "basement" option. I can actually say I forget it is back there. I bought a trailer bract controller as my trailer has electric brakes but never found the need ti install it!

By the way Ahh-cool, the camper trailers people are building (in some of the links I gave to you) are made using the different models of the Harbor Frieght trailers available. There is one model of that trailer that is similar to WasWingers. So no worries about the axel etc as you don;t build the actual "trailer" part. You just build the camper part on the frame! Some have built "tear drop" style and many have made tent sytle just like WasWingers. So building your own it not serious or hard at all. Additionaly based on my looking around. The ready built ones are pretty expensive! Usually well over $3K. The ones you make on the harbor frieght trailers are about $1K all up!

The favorite harbor frieght trailer for making a camper on it appears to be the model that has 12" tires like this one:

Some go smaller with 8" tires like this one:

Bob, I have a harbor freight 4X8 folding trailer that I replaced the bearings in after they froze up. I pull it with my Scion.
It would take some work. I lost the fenders, no lights safety chains need to be replaced. I don't have the sides.
I have been hit from behind so many times, even when the lights worked. My record is 3 times in one day. This is not a joke, it's for real.
People don't look down. I would have to think about a design that I can use the trailer as a trailer at least for the next 2 years till I retire.
BTW I bought both the trailer and the hitch from 2 different people that were about 15 blocks from each other for $50. each

This is an interesting thread to follow. I investigated these options before purchasing my Spyder. What I found was that there were many pre-built camper trailers which when packed for the road were on the border of exceeding the weight limit of the Spyders recommended towing capacity of 400lbs so I never pursued it. With most weighing in around 300lbs dry weight that doesn't leave much for accessories and supplies.
The TimeOut trailer weighs in at 345lbs.
Roll A Home dry weight is 325lbs.
Not sure about the Aspen.

I hope to learn some more from others that have done this.

We pulled over 10000 miles last year with the 2012 RTS Se5 and plan more this years with 2014 RTS Se6. Just load the trailer keeping the tongue weight to around 40 pounds. The Spyders will pull it anywhere you want to go.

Our first trip this will be to Daytona and back to Spyders on the Bayou. Then up to Spyderfest, camping at the fairgrounds, come see us.
 
Camper trailer

We pull a Aspen knock-off we purchased new for $2,800 and love it , did need to re-weld some joints at the bend of the tongue after a hard ride out of Hell's Canyon last summer . I pull the camper and the wife pulls the dog trailer.

I have a local guy with a 1998 Kwik Kamp trailer - new screens and zipper, stored indoors, asking $1800. Portland Craigslist - located in Canby, OR. If I were to buy, that's what I would own. They are terrific trailers, and are the only one I know of that allow access to storage whither the tent is up or down.

I also worry about the little trailers getting hit so I put two of the fiberglass driveway markers on the back corners of the trailer. For extra attention I also wrap some strips of both red and white conspicuity tape around the markers and hold them in place with small tie wraps. When stopped the markers give additional visibility and when driving down the road they tend to wave back and forth slightly and really get attention. Plus I can see them in the mirrors and know the trailer is still back there...
