New $200.00 Trans filter & cover????

Questions

New member
I have an 2014 RT SE6. The dealer just told me that my first 3000 mi service will be $400.00 because they have to install a new trans filter & cover required by the factory,

Is this correct? Goggled for recalls and new requirements, but don't find anything.

Thanks for your guidance,

Gary.

I also have a new 2014 RT-Limited and it's the first I've heard about it. I also would think it would be a warranty issue...

I am pretty sure that is bull. Previous years the SE5 tranny filter cover was made larger for a larger filter. Most new 2013's come with that new longer cover already. Your 2014 is a totally different engine (1330) and as far as I know nothing like that is needed on the 2014.
I would run from that dealer as fast as you can and go somewhere else that knows what they are talking about.

BS or should be covered by warranty

Just like others have posted, it sounds like BS to me.

I had my first service done about 6 weeks ago and it was $253 including the oil/filter change, service/recall checks, etc. Also, I had asked for a printout of the BUDS report and they did that free since I was in for the first service on my 2014 RT Limited.

Good luck with your 2014 RT  It is an AWESOME machine! :D:D:D:D

I would ask to see the parts, ask why it wasn't warranty work, and/or ask more details on what they're talking about....IMHO. :lecturef_smilie:

It amazes me how many dealers do not know the proper maintance for the 2014 RT's If your dealer is being honest than they maybe thinking what the 2013 twin needed. Sorry you have to be the one that has to teach them:shocked:

I'm thinking this is probably right. Likely a confused Service Writer at your dealer.

Also sounds like a dealer without complete knowledge to me. 3000 miles is oil/filter and a checklist of things to do. I even had to supply the oil change kit--since dealer could not get them from the factory. My cost so far is $0 from the dealer. Dealer still waiting on frunk lock parts.

Thanks for the advise folks.

I discussed the things all of you suggested with the dealer today. They said I should call some other dealers. I called four dealers (problem is they are all over 100 miles away) to my surprise the prices for the complete 3000 mile service ranged from $145 to a high of $250. My dealer, as mentioned is $400.00. I gave this info to my dealer and he said " Let me get back to you later.

So we will see what happens.

Thanks again for the info and support.

I looked into this extensively and found that it says at 28000 mil. to change it, and my dealer agreed. and by the way it only cost 104.99 from can am.

I'll find out about the first service costs on the 19th...
Tried to make the appointment for next Tuesday, but the Delaware County Fair is in Town that week. :gaah:
I'll be a bit higher on the mileage; the technician said that it shouldn't pose a problem.

Thanks guys.

Talked to the dealer again today. Sounds like they will be reducing the costs. Can't get a definite answer from them. Will find out more Friday when I am going up there. I'll let all of you know the outcome........

Gary.

Went to dealer this morning.

They wanted to charge me $450. for oil and filters, both regular filter and HCM oil filter.

Long story short, I called BRP customer service, they said no recalls or bulletins on changing HCM filter sooner than 28000 miles unless a problem is found. I told Service Mgr. not to change HCM oil filter.

3000 mile service cost me $250. $80 in parts, the rest is labor.

Next time I will do all myself.

Gary,

PS Thanks again for your previous thoughts and advice.
