• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. NEVER FORGET

I was actually surprised to see a report on ABC this morning.

I think they mentioned 4 of the 5 remaining survivors from the Arizona are taking a trip to the memorial.

A generation almost gone, but hopefully never forgotten.

Short memory

I think most of America has a short memory. The "news cycle" is only measured in days. Our government forgot that we have enemies that want to destroy our way of life. It didn't start on Sept 11, 2001. RIP to all those brave men and women who gave thier all to keep America free. Prayers to all who came back maimed for life.

NEVER FORGET!

Never will...

It was a horrific time and an amazing generation that came to the aide. I often wonder if we could do it again given the way things have changed...I came along just after and never got to meet some of those in my family and thank them and all who made it possible for us to be here...:pray:

My Dad was one of the survivors, and obviously, I'm glad he did.

I was able to accompany him back to Pearl on the 65th anniversary, an event I'll never forget.
Many of the survivors had their children and grandchildren as a support group, since all the survivors were 80+ years old.

Getting to know the children of the survivors a recurring theme came up, none of the survivors spoke of their experiences of that day or following.

Until my Dad was in his 80s my Dad would just say he was there. During the 65th reunion, with his fellow survivors, a few of the stories would leak out.

On the Arizona Memorial, he showed where he and others did body recovery.

Our family discussed another trip to Pearl for the 75th anniversary, and we all agreed that Dad, at 95, was just too frail to make the trip.

At the 65th anniversary, over 2000 survivors made the trip, 10 years later, around 300.

The Greatest Generation is passing on......

A trip to Pearl, and the Arizona Memorial, should be on everyone's bucket list.

I am watching the defense of Wake Island, there was still much horror as Japan went on to take Wake and the Philippians, we much to be thankful for received from their sacrifice.

My Dad, who is almost 91, joined in 1943 so he wasn't in Pearl Harbor, is shocked when people say Thank you for your service. I think most people of his generation just knew that they had to go to keep our country safe for the next generations. They didn't feel that they were being heroic or noble or anything. It was just what it was expected and supposed to be. There will probably never be another "GREATEST generation " ever. These are toughest and most heroic people that we will know and we all owe a huge debt of gratitude to them for our way of life.
