• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Well, I got hasty with my luggage ordering, and purchased a set of Nelson-Rigg CL-950 Saddlebags (http://www.newenoughhp.com/browse/view_product_images/1126) and a CL-450 large strapmount tank bag (http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl450_large_strapmount_motorcycle_tank_bag.html).

Others have pointed out before about the unique "hip" on the top of the Spyder, and unfortunately, the N-R large tankbag is just, well, too large--both for mounting and for turning the bars, even if I did some modifications to the bag pad and straps.

(I do like the shape and quality if the bag, so I'm considering swapping for their smaller CL-400 http://www.newenoughhp.com/browse/view_product_images/1116). I just have always liked riding with a tank bag...

The CL-950 saddlebags are very nice as well (keeping those), I'm just still fiddling with mounting straps, trying to make sufficient room near the passenger footpegs for my lovely bride. Nelson-Rigg is sending free extension straps so I can mount it under the seat more securely, which is fine customer service IMHO.

I too would like to find a good tank bag that works on the Spyder. I first got a Cortech bag that seemed like it would work but when I went to install it, it just wouldn't work out. Maybe I should have spent more time and effort in seeing if I could make a few small modifications to that bag to get it to work. I took it back to the store and ended up getting the Can-Am tank bag. Unfortunately, the one I got had an assembly defect in one of the mounting straps. That wouldn't allow it to mount on the Spyder. Of course, that was the only one they had and their current order of tank bags is on backorder. I am tired of waiting for my backordered Can-Am tank bag. Besides, Can-Am's tank bag is kind of small and very basic. I am still kicking around the idea of making a magnetic tank bag work on the spyder by attaching metal or magnets to the underside of the Spyder top panel.
 
I have the HELD Scotty Tankbag. It fits like it was made for the Spyder and looks good. HELD makes quality products. Check it out at their website: http://www.heldusa.com/scotty.htm

It has a base that the bag velcros to. A small strap wraps around the steering head up front. Unsnap the strap from the front of the bag and peel the bag off of the base and you can take it with you or, put it in the front storage compartment. Lift the seat and you can fold the base up under the seat. A very neat setup.

I punched a hole in each of the base straps and connected the base to the two push pins under that seat that connects the large center piece of plastic to the metal top rib that runs under the seat.

OK... I have the NR 950 bags and with the extension straps, they work out great. You will have to mount them fairly low to allow the turn signals to be visible and the passenger pegs clear. The straps allow that. I also have the CL-400 mini tank bag. I had to do a bit of "creative thinking" to overcome the crown on the Spyder tank, but it now works out great. Basically, I carved out a piece of foam to fit between the bag and the neoprene pad. It fits the contour of the tank on the bottom and has a flat top, so the bag doesn't rock back and forth. Tried it out today and works like a champ... (and about half the cost of the Can-Am bag with excellent quality). I'm happy.

Not sure about the USA, but there is a Can-Am Spyder tank bag available in Canada for $125. 1.2gal capacity (4.7litre). Comes with Can-Am branding tags and fits the tank perfectly.

I used charcoal colored polyurethane foam (like the stuff that sensitive electronics are packed in). A bit of a pain to cut (hint: use your electric carving knife). It's available at most fabric/upholstry stores. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow, but basically, I just cut a shallow "V" on one side, to fit the top shape of the tank so the bag has a flat surface to rest upon. Yea, from the side, you can see it under the bag... but it does keep it from rocking side to side.

Thanks for the explanation about the foam!

Now, back to the saddle bags--

I'm trying to get mine to sit as HIGH as possible: off the pipe, and out of the way so passenger isn't up against it much with legs. The signal issue--both safety and legal--is a small concern:

The bags sit next to (outside) of the signal lenses now with the foam rolled a bit (trying to get it just so prior to cutting any padding) so they are visible from the rear.

A bit of the side visibility of the signals is lost, however.

I realize this is a safety issue, as one would only see my left mirror signal clearly when looking to the immediate right at the vehicle...

I'll try your "low" method when the (free) Nelson-Rigg straps arrive. :bigthumbsup:

I think so too. The undercut on the saddlebags follows the angle of the exhaust, sort of. At least that's how dltang told me to install mine. ;D

Whether installed forwards or backwards, they still look good! :bigthumbsup:

...my lovely bride's legs are up against the bags, which can get annoying, and the angled part doesn't get anywhere near the pipe anyhow.

Turned "the wrong way," the angled part allows legs more freedom around the passenger pegs. Of course the reflectors are pointing forwards and the little water bottle/cel phone pockets are out of easy reach.

I'll put photos of the "right way" up tomorrow. Even if it's the wrong way. Which it maybe. Or not.
