• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

from those that ride 2 up. My wife has recently started riding with me. Her first request was to have the windshield raised all the way up to get rid of the wind noise she was getting. Raised up, it did reduce the noise level but did not completely go away. She sits directly behind me and is no taller than I am, sitting in the seat. So best we can tell, the air is coming around the side of the windshield and hitting her helmet on both sides.I have looked over several windshield makers and came up with F4 custom windshield. Also looking at the Baker Air Wings for the Spyder.

The question---given our situation---should I be looking at the windshield or the air wings to help reduce air flow around her helmet? I was thinking a F4 +3 might be the way to go. Anyone have experience with this shield on a 2014 RT-L? If I should get the F4, would the air wings do any good, since the F4 is 2 1/2 inches wider on each side?

yours is a common problem, I am guessing you ride an RT your air is most likely
from the rear the wind goes over the top of your head and hers makes a vaccuum
and sucks the wind forward at about neck and head level. There are wind deflectors
that help "Baker air wings" come to mind and I think you can get some from BRP.
You must remember you are riding a trike not a car so you will get some wind blast
a taller windshield will help a bunch. If you check into the Laminar Lip that will do
the trick as well.

:agree: As good as F4's windshield's are; creating a larger envelope of still air MIGHT just make the backdraft that much more noticeable... :shocked:
Using the BRP and/or Baker-Built AirWings might just smooth the airflow out around you enough to make it more bearable... :2thumbs:
 
I've never ridden on the back of a Spyder and I rarely take a passenger but I agree with Bob, a taller windshield will create more of a backdraft. What kind of helmet does she wear? A full face is the quietest. She could also try ear plugs.
 
Suggestions: face shield. I wear a flip up face shield. It is up most of the time. I put it down on the freeway.
another idea: ear plugs. I wear them it cuts down the noise a lot. Foam kinds are best--and cheapest.
third idea: Shubeteth (spelling) C3 helmet. It is supposed to be the quietest made. I just don't like a full face helmet.
 
While riding, hold your hand in various positions around the windshield edges and around and under the mirrors, as well as any other places you might want. As your hand acts as a wind deflector, if she feels a change in the wind, make note of that spot and investigate further what might be done to make it better for her. This might help you understand better what it is you need before spending money in pursuit of something that may or may not help.
 
I agree with SpyderAnn01 a full face helmet may be a remedy, unless that's what she is wearing.

I ryde with the windshield 1/4 to half up. If it is all the way up I get a lot of turbulence. Try lower & see how it is.
 
I noticed when I upgraded my helmet , went to a size smaller, I have no noise from the wind! Bothe were full face helmets , even when I raise the shield it is better. Might be wrong size helmet, it works for me.

Just went out for a 50 mile run. I saw a lot of wind hitting my arms/sides on this run. Noticed that when I used my hands to try and determine where the wind was coming from, it was mostly coming around the side of the windshield when it was fully extended. It was in turn just barely hitting the side of my helmet. Wife was not with me on this run---she will participate in this little experiment tomorrow.

She wears a brand new Nolan N104 modular with Sena SMH10 attached. She says she can hear me fine when we are talking so I believe most of her problem is buffeting. I still beleive the F4 +3 windscreen will do the most good but did see on this run where the air wings can do some good by maybe blocking off some wind to the arms and sides.

The question there is----will installing the baker air wings help the passenger at all? It is a long way from the wings to the passenger. I am thinking that the air will dip back in toward the passenger after hitting the wings instead of staying outside of her. Any thoughts on that??

I had a BRP windshield with the vent and basically eliminated the helmet buffering over the top and along the sides of the windshield, but I want a taller windshield. I use the BRP adjustable lower wings to help with air flow along the side of the bike.
