• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sooo... our 2013 ST-L was pulled into the garage (by whom, i'm not sayin'...but it wasn't me. Might rhyme with Jirlfriend though ). Anyways, when the garage door was shut, it lopped off the plastic taillight cover...the one right above the license plate that illuminates said plate. The taillight itself and all of the components are fine...just the plastic housing popped off. I called the dealership for a replacement part and was informed I have to buy the whole taillight assembly (bulb, wiring, cover and all) because they do not sell just the cover. I'm hoping that there is someone out there who has a surplus one that they'd sell me. Name your price, as it has to be cheaper than getting the whole damn thing from BRP. Here's the kicker...I thought the assembly/cover was universal for the GS/RS/ST since her cover pretty much looks exactly like the dimensions of the one on my GS, but 2 dealerships informed me that it is a separate part number for the ST versus the RS.

If you have one for me to buy, please let me know and I will gladly and promptly contact you. Additionally...is there a "used Spyder parts" warehouse or surplus store for the Can Am Spyder? I realize they have not been around for a real long time, but I'm figuring there has to be a place selling used Spyder parts. Searching Amazon and EBay on the part number (710003348) yielded no results. This is the 1st time I have been unable to find what I needed on either Amazon or EBay!

I am in need of a SpyderLover or 2 to the rescue...:bowdown::bowdown:

LICENSE PLATE COVER

Custom Dynamics (a site sponsor) sells one for $20. It also allows your license plate light to shine thru the assembly, giving more illumination from the rear. I bought one last year for my ST-S.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: there are others I got one from ebay and thus adds a red running light to the rear.

Custom Dynamics make a great replacement that actually uses the license plate light to be a running light instead of the cover being just a reflector. We have put several on our customers spyders and they love them. Route 1 Motorsports keep them in stock. If you can't find them give us a call and we can get one shipped out to you!

This is why I "SpyderLove" this site...

Man...took a moment to post my dilemma this morning, and checked the post a short while later to find that the calvary had arrived!!!
Looks like i'll be checking out Custom Dynamics after work today :-)

In addition, I have also learned of a few more go-to places for parts (gearhead.com, St. Boni Motorsports, as well as a similar part on EBay) for my future needs.

This is proof personified that Spyder Lovers move at the speed of light. Thanks to y'all for bailing me out

I do recommend the Custom Dynamics replacement, but as an alternative the original can be repaired. Usually the center where the screw goes through breaks out, as it is very thin there. Clean up the hole and glue in a piece of styrene plastic. Make an additional, slightly larger plastic disc as a reinforcement and glue it behind the other, being sure to glue it to the original lens, too. When you install the lens, use a small washer that will fit inside the screw boss. As an alternative, use a longer screw and a large washer that will fit against the lens (in that case you don't need to repair the lens).

When you reinstall the lens, be aware that the screw can't really be tightened well without putting excessive pressure on the plastic, because there is a gap between the lens and the flimsy screw bracket. Put a dab of RTV silicone on the bracket at the screw hole just before you install the lens and screw. Let it cure overnight and it will keep the screw from backing out. A few small dabs of silicone where the lens meets the housing helps, too. It can be slit with a razor knife if bulb replacement becomes necessary.

Thanks Scotty!!! I should have read your post b4 repairing the old one...I just suparglued the middle ring part that snapped off back on and let it cure overnight. This is a temporary measure until the Custom Dynamics one I ordered comes in. I hope to meet you and shake your hand one day, as you have helped me out countless times already.

......you weren't too hard on her. You probably didn't allow enough room for her to pull in all the way:roflblack:

Oh, you mean "Jirlfriend"???...nah. I figured it was a cheap part to replace, but then the dealer was off his rocker wanting over $50 for replacement!!!
Turns out to actually be apositive thing, because I got confirmation that my Custom Dynamics 3rd brake light has shipped and is on it's way as we speak...AND it was about a third of the OEM replacement part (which doesn't light up as a brake light). She actually did us a favor. Anyways, I live by the lyrics of "The Man song" :shemademe_smilie:

What I say goes around here
[right out the window]
And I don't wanna hear a lot of whining
[so I'll shut up]
The sooner you learn who's Boss around here
[The sooner you can give me my orders, dear]
Cuz I'm Head-Honcho around here
[but it's all in my head]

And I'll drink and watch sports whenever I want
[to get in trouble]
And I'll come home when I'm good and ready
[to sleep on the couch]
Cuz a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
[And I'm gonna do what you tell me to]
Because I'm Top dog around here
[but I've been neutered]
