• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Need some idea or a little help

Okay, I did it, I bought a shorty helmet and I love it so far. It was an inexpensive G-max with a drop down visor. Here is a picture. Of course, I got plain flat black, no skulls. I just don't see myself in skulls. Anyway, I love the retractable sun shade and it is amazing how nice it feels while riding. I will try it out on the expressway tonight on my way home from work with my earplugs. Here is the photo

Now here is where I need some ideas and help. The helmet has a clip on ear piece with pockets for my headset speakers. But my microphone was originally on my chin bar of my full face helmet. I am wondering about improvising a boom for my bike. Some thing like wrapping the mic wires around pipe cleaners or something like that. That way I can bend the mic to my mouth when I want to talk and flip it out of the way when I am not using it. I think pipe cleaners may be too flimsy. So any ideas are welcome. I only have tomorrow to work on this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Lamont, that is an idea to keep the boom in place, but I still need to make a boom. I have a small mic at the end of a wire that was recessed into my full face helmet chin bar. I can't just let the wire dangle around and as I don't have chin bar in this helmet, I a sway to mount my mic towards my mouth so I can communicate with bjt. Even if he doesn't want to hear me. LOL

By the way, nice picture, but I think the duct tape looks better on you than it would me.

Deb,

Too bad you don't have the Scala Q2 headset system. I have a full face helmet and Bonnie has one like the one you just purchased. The Q2 works great on either style of helmet. Bluetooth for the cellphone and GPS as well! :2thumbs:

You could take a piece of copper 12 guage romex wire and take the black wire out and coil it around a pencil or something. Then you can stretch it out how you need it.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to put the mic in a hunk of Velveeta and just swallow it? :joke: At least with the duct tape you won't have to worry about taping your mustache, like someone else we know. :yikes:

Coat hanger, cut and bent to shape?

Thank you for some good ideas to work with. I see there were some other ideas but we won't talk about those.:joke: I'll see what I come up with and post some photos tomorrow if it works.

The link above is to an LED laptop light for $1.98 You just cut off the ends and pull the wires out and you are left with a bendable tube you can feed your wires through with your mike at the end. Don't forget you will need foam around the mike to keep it from picking up wind noise. You will also need to attach the tube to your helmet. Maybe Duck tape cut out in the shape of a skull with a mustache! If you don't have enough time you can look at target or book stores for a small desk lamp or book lamp many use the adjustable snake flex tube.

DannyS,
That is it!! That is the perfect idea. I didn't even think about that. I have something similar already right at home. I purchased this mini tripod with flexible legs for my camera and I don't ever use it. It doesn't work like I wanted and I have a Ram Mount now instead. It has 4 or 6 legs all about the size I would need for a boom and it is the flexible stuff like you are referring too. That will work great. Now I just have to figure out how to attach it to the helmet, but I will do something. The microphone already has foam around it so I am hoping that will help a little bit. Thanks again Danny.

Dunno what to tell ya about hooking up some kind of mic------ but I'm not surprized that you like the shorty!

I did 300 miles today with mine and it has totally changed my riding experience! Feel more open air- more free---- I can see better and move my head easier.

At night tonight I put my full face back on due to the bugs--- but during the daylight hours--- the 1/2 is going to be my mainstay/

You know, that is a big thing I noticed Firefly, I can turn my head better and I have a lot more peripheral vision. I do like the open air feel too. The drop down sunshade is just enough and it protects my eye to s certain extent. Also, I believe if I choose to wear my glasses, I can with this helmet, where I can not get them on with my full face.

By the way, I got the GMax 55S it was $74.95 with 20% for $59.96 for the Father's Day sale, (Brian was with me) Brian also got himself a summer helmet, you got it, the Scorpion Exo-100.

Ms.D
I have a shortly and it is good.
Its even better if you buy a pair of safety sun glasses.
Any place that sells weed eaters have dark -yellow -and clear 5 or 6 bucks. You may have a nice pair of sun glasses but with the new helmet different wind currents.
It blocks the updraft and dirt that comes with it.

ps.
A number of Mo. and IL. riders are planning to be at the Fenton gas up Monday. We all want to share in your excitement for the gathering
If by chance you do forget something let me know on your call from Effingham----I will have time to get you a replacement.
We are all ready for the memorable 10 minute visit Monday.
Strange but true we read your posts and like what we read so your our friend.
see you Monday

Glad you're doing your part to 'shore up the economy'..................

I really like this new helmet - It has really changed riding for me!

I've also been told I look like Robocop with it on........:roflblack:

Success

I managed to get my head set and makeshift microphone boom attached to my helmet. Here are some photos, thanks again DannyS.
