Need some advice

I have read multiple threads on here and wondering if all the recalls have been preformed on the 2013 rt-s and the 2012 rt-s what one is the better one to own. I am going to my dealership tomorrow and he has a used 2012 and a new 2013 that I am going to try out. I can take either the 2012 manual shift or the 2013 for 2,000 more but has semi auto transmission for the day. I just read so many horror stories on 2013 that I am not sur I even want to try it at all. So what one would you take for the day?

Probably pretty much a toss up, although others don't think so. The SE shift is worth the difference IMO. The '13 has larger front tires although I don't know if that makes much difference. There are other suspension changes from '12 to '13 but I don't recall the details. I had a 2013 RT that I put 25,000 miles on. IMO, after the heat recall fix was applied there is nothing wrong with the 2013. Either one may have a failure of some sort so from that standpoint they're the same. My '13 had the DPS, the left handlebar switch module, and rear air shock replaced under warranty. Just be sure to get as much warranty as you can, and push hard for a bargain price on the extended warranty.

I'd still be ryding my 2013 if I hadn't come across the '14 at a great price with only 654 miles on it. Plus I wanted the larger engine for extended highway & freeway riding.

What price are you looking at for the '13?

The 2013 asking price is 15,900 but said they are willing to deal. the 2012 is 13,900.

The 2013 has the improved front suspension, and Brembo brakes.
The 2012 might have the better reputation, but I would not hesitate to consider the 2013: IFF*** the heat mitigation procedures have been fully implemented! nojoke

Start by offering 14k for the 2013. They'll reject it. If they come down to 15k fairly quickly then offer to go the 15k if they will include warranty and extended warranty for a total of 5 years. After that I think you'll be haggling over a few hundred dollars is all.

If the 2012 does not have a current active warranty on it I'd leave it behind. For comparison I bought my 2014 RTS used with 654 miles on it for $18,000. I sold my 2013 RT base with 25,000 miles, all recalls taken care of, for $11,500 about 3 weeks ago.

You already have a negative view towards the 2013...I would go with the 2012, me ....cause I love the manual and the 2012 has the engine and matching frame. Your call...:banghead:

Don't be afraid of the 2013. I hated mine before the recall but now I couldn't be happier with it.

2013 better deal. See above about the haggling bit--make sure you get a better price. Make sure the heat mitigation issue have been performed.

Have heard no complaints or problems on the 2013's post heat mitigation fixes.

The 2013 RT's had lots of little (& some not so little) upgrades/fixes applied to resolve earlier model issues & concerns so that the the only remaining 2013 'unique concern' left was the heat mitigation thing! So if the heat alleviation recall work has been done, a 2013 RT Spyder in good nick should be well & clearly the best investment you could make in a V-twin RT; & if you prefer the revvier motor & aren't too fussed about the fuel economy, a 2013 RT could well be the outstanding buy out of all the Touring Spyders on offer!! :thumbup:

I would steer clear of the 13 and go for the 12 with the manual. All of my Spyders have been manual and I think they are more reliable. The suspension on the 13 was no great improvement over the 12s, in fact a bunch of them had bad shocks, mine included. If I felt like typing a bunch I would give you the list of issues I had with my 2013 before it went up in flames but I'm tired.

I personally would save my pennies for a 14 or newer.

I put 33k on my 13 before trading it in on a 15. It was a se5 and I had no problems other than the muffler pipe broke in 1st week I had it. Warranty fix and I was happy. Do recommend 13.
