• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need some advice - please.

Saturday while ryding my spyder in Panama City at Thunder Beach - I developed an issue that I need some technical advice from the experts here on the forum.

I was in stop and go traffic for about 30-40 minutes - temp guage registered 5-6 bars and the fan was operating. When I would get open air the temp would reduce to 4 bars. Then as I was parking the spyder at one of the venues I put the spyder in reverse and I got a check engine scroll and then it said limp mode. I finished parking the spyder turned it off, removed the key and then restarted the spyder - scroll disappeared. I checked the relays and made sure all were seated properly. Left the spyder for about 90 minutes.

When I got back to the spyder it started with no problems and again was relegated to being in stop and go for another 45 minutes this time I noted that the temp guage never went above 5 ( the fan came on with 5 bars) and stayed at 4 bars most of the time. However, the bike developed a "popping" noise that was of course more noticeable when idling in traffic - but the spyder ran great - no other scrolls or codes noted.

I am thinking my exhaust gaskets may have played out -- I had them changed at 6K. Dealer did the work and used BRP gaskets for replacement. I now have almost 17K. (08 SM5). The spyder is running good just the popping - Is this the exhaust gaskets or should I be looking for something else too?

My first thought is that the BRP replacement gaskets are shot once again. This is why many here have gone to the Honda gaskets. The other thing that comes to mind is that fuel can do funny things when it gets hot like that. Does it do this under more mild conditions as well? When was the last time you had your machine serviced? Might be time for plugs, wires etc...

Have had all the scheduled maintenence last oil change and service at 15K. Full 12K check was also done at the dealer.

I figured it is the gaskets and I have the part number for the Honda's - I will start there and I will see. As I said the spyder is running great except for the popping. Got better gas mileage out of that tank and it ran cooler too.

If your first set was toast at 6k then one can expect them to be toast again by now. Go with the Honda ones and be done with it.

:agree:
But i bet the engineers at Honda are going nuts trying to figure out why their selling so many replacement gaskets.:roflblack:
