Need rear tire...

Well, after 8,000 miles I'm in need of a new rear tire - badly. After seeing other newer Spyders yesterday on the Chicago/Indiana ride I remember what a tire is *supposed* to look like!:yikes:

So I call my dealer to set up getting a new tire - only to find out they don't stock them (sorry, but that is just stupid) and they are on backorder ---- so they can't get me one for a MONTH !:gaah:

Anyone know of any *smart* dealers that stock tires? I just can't imagine having a dealership and not stocking a few sets of tires for the Spyder. I've still got mine on order with my dealer as I'm sure I'll need another by fall anyway.

Also, for those that have changed them - anyone just remove the rim and go to a local tire shop to have them swap it?

I've got this one setting in garage... can't tell you anything about it, though. Order to delivery from tirerack.com... three days.

BTW - when are you going to trim your toenail?

I'm running the CalSci now... it's my mild, three-season shield. The toenail will probably get trimmed this fall.

The pic below is from my last AR trip in April... was chilly and wet... the CHAD is also the traveling windshield regardless of season.

So Jackie at www.Robsperformance.com shipped my tire out yesterday and it showed up today via UPS :2thumbs:.

Now I have a decision to make--------:helpsmilie:

Take it to my dealer 45 minutes away and pay them to change it ----- or remove the rim and take the new tire and rim to my local tire shop for them to swap - which they most likely won't even charge me to do.

So what have you guys done? Is swapping the rear rim and getting everything re-set very hard? I have the service manual and a tension guage I got at NAPA some time ago. I've got the tools - just a bit scared of messing up the belt, etc.

IF the dealer does it - do they have the ability to balance the tire?
