• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need quick opinions, please

I am at Addictive Powersports in Great Falls. I had an appointment for them to install my GPS to be powered by the battery and also to look at the parking brake to see why it intermittently isn't holding when I park on a slope.

As soon as I rode up one guy said it looks like I need a new rear tire. (I replaced the OEM tire at Spyderfest with a Kumho, about 10,000 miles ago.) I told him a friend said the front tires were cupping and they agreed. Asked what pressure I was using and I said 20/30. They say the rear should be only about 27 psi. The owner came up and said the belt was in the wrong place - way to far to the outside of the belt. It looks to me like it's centered on the wheel. So I asked them to go ahead and check the tension to be sure it's within spec. Several people have asked about alignment, and I said it was done in April. But was it laser??? YES! This place seems to have a good reputation, but I get the feeling they're doing some upselling.

So they're checking the parking brake, installing the GPS and checking the belt tension. What do you think about the belt placement?

Ours is about a credit card thickness from the inner flange on the back pulley. Ann is the one to ask. Take a pic with your phone and send it to her.

Watch your wallet....

Seems like the are trying to get you to buy things you don't need. Your belt may be off but you don't have to replace it just align it which they should do when they adjust the tension. Your tire should be fine 10,000 on that tire is half way at best...have them do just what you asked for...

My belt moves on the rear pulley somewhat after backing up. Also on occasion it moves toward the outside of the pulley after turning. Neither situation is abnormal or cause for concern (per my dealer tech). Aligning the belt isn't rocket science. The dealer ought to check the alignment while they are checking/adjusting the tension IMO.

I agree with the, "Credit Card thickness off of the inner flange"...
But if your bike was laser-aligned, and that's where it ended up; I think that I'd tell them that it's fine...

(Can you text this to Ann and Joe?)

Mine is a tight credit card and was laser aligned by dealer and it's been that way since new. I've asked and been told it's fine. There is no wear on inner or outer edge and I am at 9,007 on the odo.

Thanks to all for the quick replies. My belt was waaaaay more than a credit-card thickness from the inside of the wheel. I'll see what they say when they're don't working.

Love you all for the combined expertise on this site! :ohyea:

Don't know the $ damages, yet, but he said the rear wheel was not on tight enough and that may have caused the belt tension to be off. Also I must have had some mud or something caught in the belt and about 1/3 of it is chewed up. Not surprised with the state of the roads I've been on the last 10,000 miles. But don't have to replace it yet.

When I do replace the belt, are there aftermarket ones I should consider? OEM one will be very expensive, I'm sure.

Don't be too concerned about the upselling, that's their job. Of course they want you to spend more of your money so they point out everything that's not 100%. Your job is to only get done what you want. Then, take the information they gave you and get a second opinion.

BELT

I don't believe anyone is making the belt other than ( Gates probably ) which is OEM.......I have seen them for sale On E-Bay at good prices, but they are usually buy-outs ( inventories ) from stores that closed, and they are always OEM's.....................Also if your tension was LOW , I wouldn't worry about that at all. My 14 RT is set at 200 lbs ( Krikit ) on the ground reading, which is way below OEM tension....Also I don't have any noticeable vibration ( go figure )............and I would check the rear tires wear bars yourself as to which wear bars they are looking at......Plus the Kumho is a car tire and does not need to pressured the same as the Crapenda.......The Kumho's sidewalls are at least 1 1/2 times stiffer then the Kenda's.........Mike

When I had Big Red 1 (my 2011 RT-S) and a belt vibration, a good tech said I will bet you picked up a small rock in your belt. He looked and there it was, a very small rock stuck in the belt, he removed it and no more vib.....it was hard to see.

Mine does the same.
