• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need help with the 2018 RT Limited Key Barrel

I have bought a new 2018 Spyder RT Limited about 3 weeks ago. I was reading the user manual and in there on page 19 there is a "Note" that says:

"A key barrel is supplied in the glove box to use with the BRP optional trailer. This allows to use the vehicle key for the trailer." (See attached Image)

I have not found mine, nor has the dealer been able to find it. I, along with the dealer have opened up a couple of case #s with Can-Am Customer Support. So far the dealership and corporate have not been able to help me. The dealership has done a good job keeping me in the loop but have not had any luck with their supplier or can am.

I just really want to know if any new Spyder Owners have seen this key barrel, or have had the same issue. If so were you able to get it resolved?

Wish I could tell you the 2018 models did but cannot.

I know my 2014 RT had the extra barrel. They left it in the middle storage by the seat.

my 14, right where it was supposed to be

my 17, right where it was supposed to be.

so, do you HAVE a can am trailer? or is that contingent on having a lock cylinder?

I have a "key barrel" from my 2014 RT Limited purchase a few years back. To my disappointment, this "key barrel" can only be used with the older style CanAm 622 Trailer and can NOT be used on our Freedom Trailer we bought - fyi.....Too bad BRP had a completely different lock design of the new Freedom Trailer and did not take into account that we could have utilized this "key barrel" that came with our Spyders....

So if you are going to utilize it on a 622 Trailer - great. Otherwise, I would not spend any time finding your "key barrel" if you plan to buy a Freedom Trailer - you can also check with your dealer to validate this! Several post on Spyderlovers on this issue awhile ago. Good luck.

If I had the cylinder then i would have gotten a can am trailer, but now Im looking outside can am at all the other styles.

Key barrel missing

I have a 2018 RTL, didn’t come w mine either. I have to call Can Am this week, I’ll ask them and post if he can give me a answer regarding if we are supposed to get them w purchase. But I for one, wouldn’t be comfortable using them. I switched my keys (had locksmith make me smaller keys) to my Can Am key chain that came w the Spyder. But all I need on it is house, boat and Spyder key. When I ride, that’s all I need.
‘I’ll let you know what they say.
Happy ryding!

Update

I just spoke w Shawn from Can Am (North East Rep). He didn’t know about the missing key barrel concern, I told him many in this group are trying to find an answer. He said he would contact Corporate and call me back.
Hopefully we will finally get an answer.
Have a great day.
