• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Picking up my spyder on Thursday and debating whether extended warranty is something I should consider or should I pass. I would like to hear from others. Need your help. Salesman gave a 858.00 1-year,978.00 2-year and 1098.00 3-year price. thanks for any responses. greg

If you plan to keep it more than two years, the extra grand for the extended 3 year warranty on a first model year product of this complexity is not a bad investment. Replacement parts for this thing are expensive.

:agree: Anything with this amount of electronics needs protection. Also the BEST plan includes roadside assistance for the original warranty period, plus the extended warranty.

Buying a warranty is just like gambling. You are betting that the item will break and the repair will cost more than the cost of the warranty. The warranty company is betting that the item will not break, mainly be the unwarranted items or be less than their deductible (if there are any).

Of course, if you don't buy the warranty, you are betting that the manufacturer designed and built a solid product and that all the things involved in getting it to you (supplier parts, assembler care and technique, dealer prep, etc.) were done properly.

Either way, it's a gamble. For the cost, which I thought was reasonable, and the added piece of mind, I bought the warranty.

Can you buy the extended warranty at anytime within the 2 year factory warranty?

Most, if not all, extended warranties can be purchased at any point while still under the original warranty.
I was told by my dealer that this is true for both the BEST and another extended warranty he sells.

Within the first 2 years would be great! I think someone had mentioned the first year was the limit on buying the B.E.S.T. coverage. I need to check that with my dealer, too.

You can buy it later, but you miss out on the roadside service. Don't know what will happen to the price either. Could go up or down based on their experience with claims in the interim.

I didn't use the roadside service on my BEST when the DPS went out, called GEICO instead for the free tow/haul to the dealership. Since this discussion I remember the BEST roadside assistance. Well, I guess now I'm "double covered" but i'm ok with that. :2thumbs: ***After thought, IMO, this is a first year production machine, you can realistically expect some problems, no matter how confident we or BRP may be in the Spyder, so as mentioned, if you plan on keeping the Spyder more than 2 years, the BEST is a good deal.

I would agree the warranty is worth the grand if you consider you paid $15k or more for your spyder and it's a first year vehicle..

The first year of any new production item always has bugs and this thing has so many electronics it will pay for itself on the 1st use probably or give you great peice of mind..

If you plan on having it past 2 years it is a must buy.. It will also help inn resale on a 2-3 year old spyder with warranty vs one without (now talk about peice of mind)...

My example

The part price for the DPS unit was $1200, wasn't told what the labor would have been but the estimate i found was 4 hrs, plus there was a software upgrade to the new DPS unit and magnetic pick-up, then of course the new output seal.....even though this was all covered under the original factory warranty, if it had happened after the 2 yr mark, with the BEST it still would have cost me a whopping $50.....so i'm glad i made the initial investment in BEST at about a grand.

thanks for extended warranty input

thanks brp junkie, nancy's toy, bjt, jimjel, littlejonn, gregh, trypod and dbnc for your comments and suggestions on the warranty. I really appreciate everyone taking the time and responding to my question. I am picking up the Spyder after work tommorrow and going to go through options with my salesman. You guys made great points and will use these on thursday. Thanks again!!! Greg Nashua NH

Wow! This is the reason why we belong to sites like this. Little tips like warranty and insurance alone can save you thousands! I'm picking mine up next week (long story) but expect the pitch from the sales guy on the BEST and will take him up on it without him even knowing ;)

I would like to know if it is possible to buy near the END of the two year warranty, I hate warranties that run concurrent with each other, they say its 5 but in reality it is only 3 because it runs simultaneously with the factory warranty....so 2/5ths is a waste of money.......now 5 years AFTER the first 2 and it would be worth it to me.

I understand you can purchase it any time during the original warranty. You do miss out on the roadside assistance during the first two years that way, however.

The BEST Warranty is a 1, 2, or 3 year warranty (depending on what you purchase) that continues at the end of your first two year factory warranty, that is what gives you up to 5 years of warranty. You can purchase it at any time within the first two years. It was a couple hundred cheaper if we purchased it within the first 60 days than tacking it on at the end. I don't know why, maybe just a dealer thing. As Scotty mentioned, the one thing you miss out on by not buying it early is the roadside assistance. Also, we purchased the BESTPlus and it paid for our first 600 miles service and an annual service check for the whole 5 years. That made it worth it to us for the Plus.

Your dealer can deal on the warranty price. I got the 3 year extended for $800.00. Make them treat you good, after all you just spent $16,000. Beerman
