• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need advice choosing a real time GPS tracker.

I am trying to find out what I need to be able to send real time tracking, that shows ryder position on something like Google maps. I would like my wife, grandkids and friends be able to see in real time where I am at. I know about trackers that leave what they call a breadcrumb and that is kind of what I want but I would like it in real time so that if they go to a site they can see what is going on in real time. thanks for any help. also would like opinions on action cams. I have a gopro but I have a hell of a time syncing the remote to the camera. I have looked around here for some gopro clubs or meets but haven't found any yet. Checked out Meetup but didn't fine anything on gopro meets. thank for any tips. ryde safe and have a good week.

If you have a smart phone, all you need to do is setup google Latitude. https://latitude.google.com/

I used it all the time with my wife. She was able to pull up her browser on any computer and see if I was still moving. Again, if you already have a smart phone, then you are golden as it is free.

As for tracking, the phone idea is good. I know there are some devices out there that allow you to be tracked and I have seen a number of references on here about them but I can't find the links right now.

I use a Drift HD 170 camera which has a push button remote. It works great and is easy to mount. Here is a video using it ...

If you have an android phone try "real time gps" You can also try "Patrolman GPS" by a company in Florida. Your first year tracking is free. Works great. PM me if you want more info.

Or you could get a ham radio license

With a technician license you can use the APRS tracking system. We use them at public service events to track our folks and sometime the head and tail of the event. Great system and darn near fool proof.

Besides Ham radio just adds to the fun.;)

Ride safe,

I would love to figure out how to use a ham radio on my Spyder. I have that plug in the back where the Children's Band antenna goes. Would be nice to put a ham antenna in there. Using the front switch on the left cluster as a PTT would be nice too.

Trakking

If you go out of the country with the smartphone tracking, you will pay roaming fees, be careful!

Dave ;)

Google Latitude does tracking but only location, not a breadcrumb trail.

Check out Real Time GPS Tracker from GreenAlp.com.

It works on your GPS enabled phone and uses maps by Google and OpenStreetmap. I used it on a ride and friends and family could see my progress (and my speeding, too!)

Warning, it does eat up your battery life, so you should either have an extended battery or the phone charger hooked up. I had my phone plugged into the powerlet via a USB connector and it tracked all day long.

I use an app called Glympse... very effective on tracking which way you came and it gives you real time tracking by refreshing constantly. However, it's got it's flaws of eating up your smartphone's battery (location services constantly on), and it can only keep track to a max of 4 hours, having to refresh and re-transmit your "Glympse"

I tried using Google's lattitue... but like Apple's "friend finder", it refreshes whenever it wanted to and did not give me an accurate position, no matter how many times I refreshed it. It also doesn't give a "breadcrum" trail as stated above...

Thank you all for your responces. I will look at them all....

There seems to be a lot of different ways to do what I am trying to do, almost to many ways and this new stuff INTML. Can't believe how out of touch I am with the new technology. thanks again.:bowdown::rolleyes:

Real good video and the music was a#$ kicking...

You have received a lot of good information.

My only contribution is to consider the times you ride where there in not any cell-phone connection. I have been in many areas where it was nonexistent; which would cause the obvious problem.

I use the following:http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=101

This specific unit works on satellites; which increase your chances of having a signal. I have used it in mountains and remotes areas with consistent results.

It does provide cookie-crumbs; however it does so fairly often... every few minutes... so tracking is as accurate as one would want in my opinion.

If you stop, the cookies will cluster in that location until departure; giving the person tracking you an indication of problems if you do not move on soon, or do not report a reason for an exceptionally long or unexpected stop.

In addition, there is a "Help/SOS" button that contacts authorities in the event you need help. I wear mine on my person so it goes where I go in the event of an accident.

There is also a pre-set message (you create) that is sent via email to the person tracking you so they know you have arrived to a destination. There is a second message you can choose in the event you need help, but it is not an emergency.

I bought mine because of a motorcyclists who crashed and was found days later in a deep ditch. He survived, however, if he had this unit he could have pushed the SOS button revealing his exact GPS location via satellites -- and saved himself days in a ditch (not to mention the pain, suffering, and bug-bites that covered his body).

The unit requires an annual subscription to the service; but to me it is not that much.

Good luck in your search...

LocaToWeb for real time tracking

I use LocaToWeb to track my rides. It's a real time tracker that enables your wife/family to follow you while riding. It stores your tracks in an archive too on http://locatoweb.com.

You can also capture photos that will show up on the map instantly. And using the app you can be as anonymous as you like since you track under an Alias, and you can set the tracks to be private (not visible to everyone). App exist for iPhone, Android and WP8.

Check it out at http://locatoweb.com

This could be done! You would have to make your own cable from the PTT button and run it to your radio.

You could then use a Sena SR10 which connects 2 way radio devices to a BT headset.

You have to be careful with the pre-set message feature . . . I had a friend who climbed Mt. Ranier a few years ago. About halfway through his ascent, he sent a pre-set message that said "I love you" to his wife and kids, which, unfortunately, went out as an SOS! Lots of excitement and attention is generated by an SOS from a party climbing Ranier, as he soon discovered! :yikes:

Good morning Guys,

Some may be upset by my question, so let me first appologize, since I do not wish to offend anyone.

My question, why in the h**l would you want your wife to know where you are at all times ?

If I were to tell my wife, honey, I am installing a tracking devidce on your car, in order to follow where you go, what do you think her response would be, or what do you think your wife's response would be, LOL.

We have been married for 42 years, I think she would rather I get lost, from time to time,

Think about it.
