Need a Bigger Shield!

I'm just getting back into my Spyder and I'm looking for a big windshield. I did install a larger one about a year ago, I think it's 18" or so, but I'm looking for a touring windshield - any help?

I discovered with windshields, it isn't about size but about positioning it where you need. Both the CHAD and Madstad Robobrackets will do this for you. My husband and I both have Madstad Robobrackets. I am 5'6" and he is 6'4" tall and we have their 20" screen and it gives more protection than any other shield we've tried. We have tried many, BRP Touring, F1, Evo 2, Evo 3, Slider, & Cal Sci. Madstad is far superior in my personal opinion. I have never tried the CHAD but those that have it are very happy and have nothing but good things to say.

I also have the RoboBrackets and used my own windshield. The brackets allow you to adjust your windshield height and angle to just about any position...no more head banging from the wind, now the only head banging comes from my I-Pod! :thumbup:

The CHAD is about 25" tall, but has the adjustable bracket which as dltang said is key. It can be adjusted in height almost 3" inches and the angle forward to back is also very adjustable.

I had the 25" BRP Ultra Touring shield kit, and I just sold it (to another forum member) because I was not 100% pleased with it. It was MUCH better than stock, but I still got some wind noise on the top of my helmet. I tried the Madstad robobrackets with their 22" shield, and I couldn't be happier. It offers so many ways to position it that I can easily change the feel of my Spyder completely (from very peaceful and quiet, to more wind feel if I want it). I would highly recommend this system. You could just try the robobrackets on your 18" shield, but you will need to drill 4 holes in your shield to do it.

I purchased the CalSci from Magic Man and really like the shield. However, with the weather getting cooler, I am considering the Robo Brackets. I think I will use them with the CalSci to get the adjustability. My only concern is how "funny" the setup may look.

I don't think it should look too "funny". One experiment I tried was using the bottom part of the F1 slider I had and mounted it to the Robobrackets. It worked pretty well. I love that shield because that is the one tatt2r etched a cross on for me. But the Madstad shield is smaller and still works even better.

I installed the RoboBrackets with my CalSci and I don't think it looks funny. I did paint the bottom portion of the windshield (on the inside) to hide the brackets from the front. I think it looks pretty good.

I wouldn't install any windshild on a Spyder without at least the Madstad brackets - and Mark has them in black now.

BTW, I'm 6'4", and found his 22" windshild was perfect for my riding. I also carry a set of inexpensive ATV snap-on hand protectors (Shadetree Products) for really nasty weather or heavy rain....

I had CHAD and it was good but the Madstad system was sooo much better. :2thumbs: Looks better IMHO and was way cheaper.
Much more adjustment which is the key as we are all different heights and sit in different positions.

I also have a F1 evo III 30" screen, it gives me great wind protection and very little noise but I hate the look of it as it makes my spydie look goofy and I want to change to a smaller but don't want the wind hitting me in the face at all. There seem to be a large selection of wind screen for the Spyder now and not sure which one to get, I was thinking of trying the F1 sting ray anyone has this screen and can tell mw how it is.
