• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I live in charlotte nc and wanted to know do most riders here or area ride with mesh jackets or no jackets at all?

Hi there from Hickory!

I try to always wear my jacket in the summer, if I can possibly stand it. I try to keep moving fast enough that I have enough air flow to keep me comfy ;) Plus, I sunburn easily, so the jacket means I will be more comfortable in the long run.

Mesh Jacket

I live in east central Florida, it gets plenty hot and muggy in the summer. I wear the mesh jacket without liner all the time. Keeps the sun from cooking me too badly and absorbs those nasty bug hits. Mine is bright yellow, makes me more visible. The Air Force base here requires bright protective gear to enter the base, I imagine the same rules apply to bases in NC.

I live in Charlotte and wear a multi layer mesh in Fall and Winter (rain, thermal and mesh) jacket with UnderArmor layers for 40-60 degrees.

I hate to say it and will probably take some crap about it, but I wear walking shorts and a tee shirt in the summer. There is a reason I ryde a Spyder (which absolutely minimizes my possibility of road rash) and a jacket isn't going to save me from a truck impact anyway. Yes, Kevlar inserts will protect me (more) if I fall off the bike, but if something knocks me off that thing, gravel may be the least of my problems. Impact trauma is more likely going to be higher on my list of concerns.

It's the South. It gets 90-100 degrees here with 90% humidity. If I wanted to be 100% safe I would never leave the house. Or even more safe, I would ride in my car all the time.

It becomes a personal choice thing. Comfort vs. added protection. On a two wheeler, I would opt for more protection. I believe that a Spyder buys a little more comfort and safety.

I wear an olympia neon yellow and black mesh jacket with a rain and thermal insert when needed.

I've found that mesh jackets can still be hot when they are black... moving to the brighter color improved that significantly.
