Nankang XR611 Rear 225/50R15 - fitted to RTL

Hi All, been talking about this on otherer treads, Rear kenda shot after 7000km and wanted to go to a car tire, went to the BRP and asked if they would fit them, no! was the answer but they offered me the Nankang xr-611 as a suitable replacement for the Kenda [all my checking revealed that its simply a car tire like any other] so why am i able to fit that and not another brand, got me stuffed!

Anyway it's ordered and on its way so i was delighted to find your review Askiitee and look forward to trying them, $300 AUD sound right? AB

Here downunder they seem to range $165-$200.

Great news that my effort has helped. Eager to hear your results

Thanks for the great reviews, settled my mind about picking this tire, although i had very little choice. $300 plus 1hr fitting, this is Tassie remember, Bass Strait is one of the most expensive stretches of water in the world. Still happy to pay for what seems a reasonable tire.

I notice you said your still running front Kendas, just waiting for them to wear? can we get the nankangs in the right size for the fronts?

Please keep the reviews coming askites, Anyone else had experience with this tire?

Hi Airborne,

Yes I have fitted the Nankangs to the front and they have been great. Geez about the price - they come across 1st class seat with Qantas?

For those who have/had the Nankangs are you still happy with them?

For the front were you able to source 165x55x15 in Nankang?

I would like to ditch the front Kendas especially at this stage as they are the easiest to remove from the bike for fitting.

Did you consider Achilles ATR-K Economist? Went to a local tyre shop and they said Achilles would be worse than the Kendas, hard to believe after reading so much on here.

Thanks

Hi Glenm - I didnt look at that brand, but did look at others. The fact Nankang worked with Yokohama kind of swayed me a bit towards them.

I have clocked up 17000kms on the Rear and the fronts are wearing nicely (evenly, no scalloping)

I haven't been able to find any supplier for this size in the US. UK, yes. Down under, yes. US, no. Anyone have any info where to find that size in this country?:helpsmilie:

:agree: I've searched every tire supplier I can ..... and nobody carries this size in that Nankang XR-611 model tire.???!!!??? :gaah::helpsmilie:

Would the Kumho Ecsta in the same size be a good alternative???

Askitee
Did you put the XR611 on the front or different model?
Size you put on the front?
Found a local Nankang agent so hopefully they will be able to get them.
Thanks again

Thanks askitee
I am Tweed Heads area so right at the border. Cross each day for work.
Found a local place that can get Nankangs although they are currently out of stock. The Kendas aren't worn out so I can wait for the Nankangs to come in.
Not sure I want to tackle pulling the rear off but will have to soon otherwise I can only get the Kenda back on if I go to a dealer.

G'day glennm

Seeing you at Tweed heads, get the rear tyre and book in to Pat in Lismore and he can fit the new rear for you.

I did that with my rear.

Cheers and bers

Frank, Gold Coast.

Ecellent advice Frank I was wondering whether Pat would do it. I did speak to him a couple of times before I bought the Spyder (but never about tyres) and he sounds like a great guy.

Wanted to get the tyres done and have him do an alignment too then I know everything will be spot on.

Border closed now so I can no longer enter NSW as I had to move to Qld so I could still go to work. Search is on for someone else or I will just have to bite the bullet and do it myself.

Well that was scary!

I now know what askitee was talking about and his experience with Kendas in wet weather.

Rode 150ks in the pouring rain with no dramas, all highway and 3 ks from my daughters house hit a section with smooth melted bitumen and a small amount of water over it.:opps:

Spydey danced quite a jig and it was definitely an undies soiling moment, well more than one as it then hit a 2nd patch and did the dance again. Very glad no other vehicles were close.

3 new tires ordered, Hankook Kinergy as I have had a really good run with Hankook in the past and research indicates these to be a pretty good option, and I can get them. At worst it will provide us with another tire review and potential option.

Thanks all for the input
