There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Nail found in rear tire, what would you do?

Ok last week I found a nail in the middle of the rear tire. I have Rideon added in the rear when it was replaced last year( April), it has 12k miles on it, plenty of tread as I got 18k before I replaced the first one. So far no leaks so, do I get it pulled before heading to spyderfest and plug it, or no big deal just ride.:dontknow:, maybe fix at cowtown. I go on a group ride in the morning tomorrow and could probably get dealer to fix before:dontknow:

I am not telling you what to do, but this is what I would do. With the Ride On in the tire, I would air the tire to about 40 pounds, pull out the nail and run the bike a couple of miles or more, check for leaks, and if none, ride and enjoy.

:agree:

I'd do as Dudley said.

Check out the video on the ride-on site for yourself. If the nail is not larger than 1/4" in diameter, there should be no problem. Hey, if you can't believe ride-on, whom can you believe.

I would not push your luck. It may be ok, but I never plug any tires. Ride-on is not a cure-all. Just think if it lets go in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, with banjo music playing in the background.:yikes::yikes::yikes:

If you were just riding around town, I'd say plug it (preferably with a Stop-N-Go plug kit) and continue on. Be aware that the Ride-On can interfere with normal plug sealing, however, but will plug the gaps itself. Given the long distance trips you have ahead, however, I would replace the tire and the Ride-On for my own piece of mind. Finding a slow leak, repairing a tire, or trying to replace one on a road trip is not so much fun!

I would plug it Steve, even though the nail is acting like a plug now. I had a glass puncture in the rear tire within 1000m of purchase and plugged it. It held till I replaced 15K later. BTW, how many of those CO2 cartridges will fill the front and rear tires guys? Most bike shops will not patch a tire, liability issues. Most tire stores will. Regarding RideOn, I used to have it in my tires until I replaced the rear and rotated the front. The Pirate had discovered that it had clumped up inside one of the fronts causing vibrations. So it was basically out of balance.

NAIL IN TIRE

If it was you're car ..What would you do???,...I go with Mark on this one....It's not a Mtc. tire...they are not meant to be fixed except in an emergency only and maybe not even then......Car tire construction is way different and our tires are loaded way less and stressed way less.....You do what you think is best.......But me I'd go with the Ride-On directions......JMHO......Mike.....

That's quite a ride ahead of you, the tire is 2/3 gone already, and they tend to wear in the middle where the plug will be.
For my own piece of mind I would replace it now and be done with it, one less thing to worry about. Your already concerned and you haven't even left yet, remove it from the worry list now!

I would replace it (the tire, not the spyder) for the long trip. You can always keep the old tire, and remount it after the long trip to use the remaining third of the thread for around town trips. This way you have the peace of mind, and not losing the rest of the tire life. The only question is how much it would cost to mount the tires.

12K on a tire that may get 18K...........so 2/3rds used. A car tire I would suggest pull it and have a tire repair facility repair from the inside and remount and run it. The Spyder............not so easy to "pull it" so I would "pull it" and replace the tire.

2 cents.............

I know I refer back to our ATV days quite a bit but no one rode harder than we did and it was common to get a flat or two when we went out through everything we could find. We always had a plug kit and a way to air the tires back up. There would be times we would have 20 or more plugs in a tire from running through all the old coal mines and we NEVER had a plug come loose or leak over several years. I know ATV tires are not car tires but our Spyders do not take even a fraction of what we put those tires through. Just something else to ponder over. I do keep a plug kit in my Spyder and would not think twice about using it. NO SIDEWALLS for those who have not used them before. Bad sidewall = new tire!

A good quality (if there is such a thing) "plug" involves "cement" and a "plug". Generally the cement acts as an agent that will assist the unvulcanized rubber on the plug to vulcanize or cure. I would want to know what this "RideOn" stuff does potentially to the vulcanization process before I would plug any road tire.

What is the cost of a flat tire on the side of the road worth to you?

Thank you All so much for your advice; what a great place to get helpful opinions on. I am at my dealership now and after closer examination, itis a finishing nail so under the 1/4 inch diameter, with 12k miles on these I won't get the 18k I got before.

So I am having them replace this morning before this ride I am going on with a group of spyder riders!

Thanks everyone, don't wanna here any banjos and have a deliverance happen lol
