I have flown over those areas many times both as a civilian pilot and the DOD and always wondered. If not killed in the crash it was a bad way to go.

Saw it on the news a picture of the patch and a pic of her plane with it on. The piece was riveted on to replace a rear window on her Electra. I have heard about the find before and wonder why it took so long to match it up but it is confirmed. There is also some sonar pings they have yet to get a look at that may be a large part of an aircraft nearby RIP Ameliaray:

While I hope that an eventual discovery would grant closure to any relatives of hers; don't you feel a bit sad, when a mystery like this is solved? :shocked:

it's not really sad, but it is interesting. we were doing renovations once on a building in the city and when they were tearing down the walls they found a skeleton. well the job came to a halt and the police were all over the find. long story short, through dental records they found out he was the 1940 Polish hide and seek champion, and the medal for winning was given to his family posthumously

Not really. Deep down. I think she would want us to know/understand as much as possible about this aspect of her journey.
