• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

my spyder issues

Hi
These are my issues.

1.The spyder creeps in first gear and in reverse.. Tops out at about 6 or 7 mph. It takes multiple hard braking to get it to stop creeping.
2. Stalled once so far in mid day traffic, luckily i was still in my lane and no problems firing it up and making my turn.
3. Spyder hesitates or seems to want to stall while shifting from 2nd into 3 gear. I am steady on the throttle while shifting.
4. Spyder hesitates and seems to want to stall when shifting from 4th into 5th gear. Also feels like tranny slips and revs up higher and than comes back to normal rev after shifting into 5th. I am steady on the throttle while shifting.
5. When auto downshifting from 3rd into 2nd the downshift is not smooth, it is clunky like when putting it in first gear or reverse. Happened once so far and has not happened again. No throttle applied when downshifting ever.
6. Somethin feels fishy in my steering, seems to sometimes fight with me at slow speeds in parking lots or turning at a stop.
7. Pulled into local coffee shop and parked the spyder, than seen a puff of smoke come from left side of spyder. Oh crap its gonna light on fire. observed and smoke slowly disappeared.. Parked in my garage later after coffee run and more smoke. Removed left panels quickly and found the culprit. Oil leeking from air box onto hot exhaust??

Spyder mileage 1400 kms.

I am in a wheelchair, I do not need my spyder lighting itself on fire or stalling or breaking down on me.

I'd replace the filter on the airbox. Oil collecting in the air box has been a common complaint. NMN has a good replacement.

My SE5 also creeped in 1st gear. Give it a blip of the throttle to make it stop. I was told that it is due to the centrifugal clutch not being fully engaged. The problem almost disapeared on mine after about 2000 miles..

The auto-downshift also clunks between third and second, I am not particularly worried about it.

Check to see what rpm you are trying to shift at. Some of these reported problems have been caused by trying to "short shift" at too low an rpm. The Rotax is a high rpm engine, not a 3,000 rpm cruiser.

You might be onto something here, i do take it easy most times, i like to cruise.. I have noticed if i shift higher like 4500 or 5000 it doesn't happen..

That's not going to solve the oil-in-the-airbox problem. The breather hose enters the lower box on the left/rear side... away from the filter.

The new NMN filter will solve the issues of letting dirt/dust around the poorly-fitting stock filter.

Thanks AtaDude! I sit corrected. :2thumbs: Is that why Lamonster added his crankcase filter mod???

Ferno, if it makes you feel any better, you are not alone with your SE5 issues.

The creeping is well-documented and being worked on by BRP. "Blip" the throttle while holding the brake firmly at a stop and it will revert back to no-creep mode.

The hesitation/sputtering while shifting is likely too-low RPM when shifting. The Spyder is programmed to prevent bogging or lugging. See if the symptoms go away when shifting at higher RPMs.

Downshifting into 2nd is more abrupt than downshifting into any other gear. Haven't seen a good explanation why yet but I wonder what's banging into what inside the gearbox.

The steering issue might be addressed by the recent recall announced in the SpyderLovers forums. When I called BRP they said I will hear from my dealer when they're ready to apply the update.

Yes. With the stock setup, the oil does not travel through the filter. In fact, had they rigged it to go directly to the throttle bodies, it would have been much better... straight back into the engine. Ken's race air flow filter handles the breather and any blow-by this way.

As it is... the breather/oil is routed directly into the air box where it has no place to go... except to the bottom of the box. There it sets... pools... and then drips.

Lamont's invention traps the oil before it enters the air box, holds it and then allows you to drain it by removing only one side cover.

I think I would/will try to add one thing... a drain hose extending below the body with an on/off drain valve. Then, you can drain it without removing any covers that way.

+1 on Lamont's invention! :2thumbs:

If you look at the pic again you see I have a hose on it. All you do is pull down on the hose and it drains. :doorag:
