• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I got to make another video and my key is sitting outside the spyder's ignition, thats wierd I thought so I go to put it in and only half of it is on the top, CHITTT I thought well I put it in started the spyder, took the broken part out and it ran to work (and made another HIGH setting HD video) got to work, opened my trunk and everything worked.I have my extra key and I do not take my key out as much as I used to, just so everyone knows to keep you extra key with and that your spyder will run WITHOUT the top on it.

here is a picuture of the maddness, note the bugs, i never wash my bike and that wins me bike shows!!

I think you could have a spare key made that just works mechanically--- and as long as you have the top part of a Spyder key nearby it should still work.

Heck, you could just tape your broken key underneath your Y panel and then just use copy-keys from your local key shop. Cheaper than the big $$$ for a new BRP key!

Didn't you drill a hole in it???

:agree: The Army Spyder had a broken key in it and I used a housekey to turn the cylinder until I could get a replacement made. Unfortunately, as I had no spare (same shipping company that broke the key tossed the other in the packing materials), I ended up replacing the whole lock cylinder. The key head transponder's good in a pocket and would probably still work in the trunk, although I didn't check that.

Broken Key

Mine broke off too but in a different place. Just the tip; left in the lock rendering the bike useless. Note not covered under extended warrenty per BRP. This just plain sucks:gaah:.

yeah, the top!!! and that part as you can plainly see from the picture is fine AND it still works broke in half and with the hold in it.
There were not any holes drill in the key part.

Your pic doesn't increase in size so I couldn't see the details...maybe you should've drilled into the key part! :joke:

I wish, could have saved weight.

Seriously I was wondering if anyone else has had their key break like this?

I turn mine on and off quite a bit, both with normal use and on the drag strip waiting for mine time to race.

hah...I haven't heard of the key itself breaking...I'm sure that is covered under warranty though...the key shouldn't be considered a wear and tear item...it should work like any other piece of machinery on the bike...

I did not think of this until you posted it, thanks , I called the closest dealership and asked them and they said they would get on it and I had to talk to someone to make sure it was under warranty.

I have to bring it down to get it programed, This warranty you speak of, its crazy to me.

BRP will NOT cover keys unless the key system is bad, and then they would replace it all. Just going to sit here and wait for the key recall because this is were BRP finds out about issues with their stuff. Hopefully I just got a random bad key which cost $37 and it would be $75 total with the flash at brothers in brainerd.

Oh no...contact carlo on this one...if the key physically breaks, this should be covered...that's a crock of you know what...if your handlebars broke, would that be covered? If a plastic panel just cracked in half for no apparent reason, would that be covered?

I think you're a great BRP customer (as we all are) and they should take care of a broken key...this is not something too much to ask for...this is not a wear and tear item, for sure...I cannot believe a dealer wouldn't help you with this...

Is there a bullet hole or scuff on key, maybe you grazed it when shooting at a ?????? :yikes: Seriously dude you are havin some redonculous issues :roflblack::roflblack:

Good Luck
Jim:thumbup:
