• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. My Handbrake Story

I made a mechanical hand brake that works like a charm BUT as was said it takes a lot of hand power to really stop the Spyder fast, like in an emergency. Using the hand lever at the same time as the foot brake is fabulous. I started with a clutch cable lever setup as is used on mechanical hand clutches on HDs that I bought from J&P. It took various tries to get the ratios right but it was a challenge and came out very well. I also made a rocking foot rest that moved my right foot forward and when rocked it applies the OEM brakes. ThingsI do. It's all fun.

Here's why I like the ISCI handbrake: In situations with lots of traffic I like to keep a hand hovering over the hand brake to reduce the time it takes to apply if and when someone does something stupid. I have a real tough time hovering over the foot brake without actually applying it. On my two wheeler keeping my right hand over the lever has become an automatic reaction when traffic builds or other vehicles are in close proximity. That automatic action is something I didn't want to give up. The ISCI hand brake is very well made, but it requires a large hand and a lot of force. As mentioned previously, it adds a hydraulic brake system to the mechanics of applying the brakes when the foot brake is not used. I find it handy for initial and quick application of the brakes, but for full on braking the foot brake still works best. JMHO

I think that a lot of us used to ride this way. That may also be why folks upset the computers by riding the brake pedal a little bit... The brake lever is easier to cover without actually engaging it.

I just installed my ISCI hand brake and have not ridden it yet to try it out due to the weather..I read all of the posts and polls trying to decide if I wanted one or not..I finally came to the conclusion that if I had an accident, could I look back and say,"did I do everything I could to be safe?".....This may not make much difference as some posters have said,or it may make a lot of difference as other posters have said..But,now I feel I have done all I can,in my mind, for my wife and I to be safe...

Harley

Last Saturday I installed my new ISCI handbrake. Since then I've been riding the bike to work and around town just getting used to it. Then yesterday I was cruising on a four lane road in the right lane, in the left lane was a car waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn. Behind this car was another car held up by the turning vehicle. Suddenly the held up car whips into the right lane directly in front of me. I was going the speed limit of 35mph and I swear this car was 20 feet in front me. I slammed on the foot brake and crammed the handbrake for all I was worth. I was amazed that the :spyder2: stopped on a dime. If I just used the foot brake I think I would have hit that car. I gotta say that handbrake just paid for itself.

I am having the ISCI handbrake installed on my RT before I pick it up this week-end..Being 75 years old and being used to two-wheelers, I think it is a worthwhile investment. After all, we would like to be around for a few more years to enjoy our Spyder.

I did install it myself, and it took about 3 hours..it actually it is pretty simple and it is a quality, first class accessory....A lot of the time is taking off and installing the tupperware.. I also did a few maintenance checks like taking my air filter out and cleaning the oil out of the airbox while I had the panels off.....I purchased it from a member here that sold his Spyder and took the brake off when he sold it on consignment..I also talked to Jeff at ISCI and he was very friendly and helpful, even though he knew I was purchasing from a private seller...I called him to make sure I could buy any missing or even replacement parts before I purchased it..he said all parts are available to buy seperately...Last i heard there was another one for sale here for app $1000.00...normal price new is $1,250.00....I rode mine for the first time yesterday, and I feel it is worth the price...Its a huge piece of mind for me..
