My hand hurts worse!!!!!

BumbleBee

RT-S PE#0174
I had my Kuryakyn ISO Grips and Throttle Boss put on this morning. I test ryde it for awhile, and then went home. By the time I got home, my hand (Throttle one, between my thumb and index finger) was hurting worse then when I had my stock grips on. :(

But the tingling and numbness was all gone.

I am pretty sure I got to give it more ryding time. For the moment I am wondering if that was a mistake changing my grips??? What else is there left for me to try, if these should not work out for me?

I really like these:

I've used the Kurys on other bikes and they're OK but compared to these...

I like the stock grips...I have a TM on mine, so the vibration is reduced....plus, I can take my hand off from time to time to give it a break.

I'm wondering if the risers I'm getting put on tomorrow will help because I won't be leaning into the handlebars as much...

It's like riding a mountain bike...ain't comfortable on the wrists...however, I have a riser on my mountain bike and it's about 75% better now...curious if the same will apply with the Spyder...if you don't already have a NMN/ESI riser, that might also be an aid...

I'll letcha know if it helps if you're interested...

4" riser are being put on next Friday. I think my hands are too small for the Kuryakyn grips. :dontknow:

The Crampbuster is the biggest bang for the buck I've found for reducing right hand issues on longer rides... can't beat the price and I don't feel any pain anymore. Plus, if I'm on a winding road ride, I just take it off and toss it in the trunk or my jacket pocket.

:agree: I don't take mine off, I just rotate it a little so my hand doesn't touch it. I still have the stock grips and don't plan on changing them.

Bee, did you try relaxing your grip a bit?

My grip is relaxed. I was getting a lot of vibration, from the stock grips. So, I thought changing them to the ISO grips would help, not so sure of that now.

I still have the stock grips, just in case.

that happened with my girlfriend small hands ... changed grips to neat looking red and black ones .... but same size as factory ...

Give it some time.. Wait for your risers to be installed and I'll be it makes all the differance in the world.. Just my 2 cents worth.. As you know I'm running stock grips with a 1 inch riser and confortable for right now but may try the Crampbuster, we'll see.

I also like the stock grips. On the Demo Ryde, I rode a Spyder with the BRP custom grips. They are smaller in circumference than even the stock grips. I HATED them! I had the BRP anti-vibe bar ends installed. Nearly all hand issues gone now except for fatigue on longer rydes. I'll probably try a Crampbuster before anything else.

I have pretty good sized hands for a woman and find the Kury grips to be too big to be comfortable for me.

I will probably swing over to your house later and you can test ryde my spyder with the new grips. See what you think. I have small hands and these ISO grips are bigger then I thought. Not really sure if I like them, I might end up putting my stock grips back on, and getting some puppy grips and a crampbuster. I will hold off untill I have my 4" riser on next week.

carpal tunnel syndrome.. I had it. Hand would go numb as if asleep. Eventually it would do it even when I wasnt riding. If this persists after you make the changes see you doctor. I had it surguically fixed and I have not had a problem with it since. With that in mind I will say that with the stock set up there IS A LOT of down pressure on your hands at least there is in my case.

For my 1st 700 miles or so my hands always hurt . . . When I had my HeliBar riser put in, it was 1,000% improvement -- because my position no longer had me completely leaning on the handgrips. Now I only get discomfort on very long stretches where I don't get to fiddle my right hand. My left hand is never an issue now.

When you get risers -- of any type I presume -- things will improve dramatically.

P.S. I have the standard grips -- but, I have used gel gloves since day 1.

Tried those and hated them.....felt really hard. got an extra set if someone is interested.....

Stock type grips--- grip puppies ontop--- and a Throttlemeister works great.

Also always wear gloves.

I always wear gloves. Got 2 pairs, both with gel inserts!!
I am leaning towards grip puppies and a crampbuster. If these don't work out for me. Taking another ryde here, and see what happens.

I have very small hands (size 7 gloves) and switched my grips to some gel grips that were even smaller than stock. I hated them. I have the Kury grips now and they're great. I was afraid they'd be too big, but they're actually very comfortable for me. I have 4" risers and I bet that makes a huge difference. Without the risers, I'd be putting a lot more weight on my hands and I could very much believe that the extra weight + large grips wouldn't be comfortable at all.

I did the BB's in the handle bars and that helped a lot with the vibration and with my hand. I also noticed my hand was worse when I had gloves on.

I also have small hands and Love the ISO Grips. But a few things i found that will cause some pain with them is gel grips (Seem to put added pressure on certain pressure points on the hand since the grips are rubber and thicker) and the position of the Throttle Boss plays a big part in it as it will also hit some pressure points when its angled to far upwards with the throttle released.

I often find my throttle hand getting numb and tingly, which I figure might be due to me gripping a bit too tightly.
I have been experimenting with some old mountain bike gloves. No fingers, which works well on warm days, and just enough padding in the palms to help alleviate the numbness issue.
