This is not the message I want to deliver at Christmas time but here it is;
My scans were very bad again with lymph nodes becoming more involved, liver tumors that are larger and more plentiful, lung tumors growing and an overall weakness. I had to be in the hospital on Tuesday night because I passed out and hit my head on a radiator. While in the hospital Cheryl and I had the opportunity talk to the Hospitalist about my condition now and in the future. He gave us topics of discussion with my oncologist. They have withdrawn all my cardiac medication, my anti-cholesterol med and my coumadin. It is felt that they may be a problem with lowering my blood pressure and causing potential episodes. However, at my oncologist appt yesterday it is clear that chemo is of no value to me and that is discontinued also. I am entering the hospice program and will remain at home. When asked what my timeline is based on the aggressiveness of the cancer I have been given eight weeks.
I am looking for some respite for Cheryl so she can get some time away from the house.
I don't know what else to say as this did not come as a surprise but when it came it has rocked our world.
Do everything you can to have a merry Christmas especially hold those close to you even closer.
Love,
Dough
