There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I have been on a ton of motorcycle rides for long distances in the past. I am taking off Tuesday morning on a 300 mile trek on my Spyder. Honestly I am a bit nervous because the temperatures are supposed to be in the 90's. Any pointers or things to look out for on the Spyder. I only have 650 miles on it. Thanks. (2009 RS Phantom)

Nope...ride and have fun. The heat shouldn't be an issue...I was riding for a few hours in 90+ degree heat today and didn't have an issue...bike was on 4 bars most of the way...then again, I do have the missing air dam installed...perhaps it did help. I do need the update to again modify the bars as they relate to heat...we'll see.

Just take some breaks for fluid intake...have fun, and be safe...

Think hydration. The Spyder will see to it's ownself, you on the other hand must protect and use a much bigger brain.

Oh, have fun....:2thumbs:

It gets a little warm here in South Texas once in a while. I have 2,800 miles on my RT and the heat gauge only gets a little above the center when stopped at a stop light for 45-60 seconds and then goes down. It was only 99 coming home from breakfast yesterday.

For you....wear a mesh jaclet with a T-shirt under it next to your skin. Take two quarts of water and pour 1/2 quart on your T-shirt, put on your mesh jacket and RIDE.....take a third quart for you to drink.

As you know, your oil cools your engine, check it and your coolent before you leave.

Have a ball and let us know how it went....

I'll add one more tip...leave as early as possible, to get the maximum miles in before the hottest part of the day.

Hydrate like crazy, you'll feel better, think clearer and be cooler. Wear white, even under dark mesh it helps.

Do the usual check before you go, tire pressure, lights and signals... with 650 miles there's not much that could need attention, but a once over is always a good idea.

Alot of us wear camel backs with the straw to our helmet, I just ran about 150+ miles though 105' here in AZ in straights, twisties and elevation changes. Your good to go.

I agree with wearing a cooling vest and with leaving early. One other thing that's helpful to me is to wear a good pair of boots. The heat off the Spyder, especially on the right side, can really get serious if you wear sneakers or something less substantial than boots.

Here in Georgia it's really hot (100+) most days so my best advice is stop more often than you nom ally would and keep drinking water. Get out early to beat the hottest part of the day. I will leave 5:00 am ride until 12:00 and take it easy for a few hours and then get back on later afternoon and ride till dinner time. 4:30 pm till 7:30 pm. That give you a 10 hour day good for at least 500 to 600 non hyway miles with stops. That kind of pace is easy to maintain.

My son gave us a pair of camel backs for Father's Day and what a fine gift. We fill them with ice and then cold water. The water stays cool for hours and when you stop for fuel refill them with ice and water.

We've done some serious miles in the past few weeks in 100 degree weather without a single issue.

I like that idea of the damp t-shirt under the mesh jacket. I will have to give that a try.

Mineral Ice

I put mineral Ice on my face when its hot out. Its like applying a can of cold soday or beer to the back of your neck or forhead but lasts a lot longer.

wear long sleeve...it will protect you from the heat....wet your shirt at every gas stop.....drink lots of water...if you are not peeing at every gas stop drink more water......have fun!!!

I picked up one of these after I saw CyncySpyder's on his :spyder2:. Best $20 I've spent in a while. Installed in the parking lot in 1 min. I used the velcro mount (comes with 4 mounting attachments) for a fast/temp mount & it worked great on my left handlebar area. I will later hard mount is somewhere but for that ride it worked great.

Good luck and enjoy.:2thumbs:

What's the best way to use the Long Sleeve Top for a wide range of tempuratures?
This question about how to use our riding top comes up often. Controlling your exposure to the elements is most important when riding a motorcycle and especially so on a longer trip. The LDComfort long sleeve top can provide you with everything you need for helping you ride in 100 degrees and 50 degrees. Simply put on the LDComfort top and your other layers (a NON-mesh jacket is best) and enjoy the trip. Temps down to 50 degrees are not a problem depending on the wind proofing of your outer garment. Many riders wear a heated jacket over their LDComfort top. Riders can ride in freezing weather with little to no trouble when properly outfitted.
Temps reaching 100 degrees are also not a problem when handled correctly. The high heat is where many riders make mistakes and place themselves in danger. The LDComfort long sleeve top can be used as a cooling garment to help you ride in temps up to 120 degrees - 49 Celcius (Tested). Pour water down the sleeves and into the neck of the LDComfort top. Zip up your outer jacket and ride with a little bit of air entering at your sleeves. That air will be immediately cooled and funneled into the main part of your jacket so you can ride in a bubble of cool air. Keep that cool air around you by making sure not to open all your vents.
Here is a big secret. DO NOT WEAR MESH when the temps get past 100 degrees. There is no control of the airflow and soon you will exhaust all the cool air. Think of this: You are riding in your car with the air conditioner running. You are comfortable. Now roll down all your windows and let out the cool air.
Happy now? Same thing when you ride your motorcycle

LD Comfort. Follow Trickie Dickie's link. It's the best by far. Counterintuitive to wear long sleeves when its hottest but it really works.
