There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. My First Accident - Ever...

I'm turning 50 next year and today I had my very first collision, ever.

The sad part is that it happened on my RTL.

The car in front of me moved onto the shoulder of the freeway to avoid hitting a car with a flat tire, I got into the shoulder too to avoid him but the car behind me did not stop until he hit me on my left saddle bag then hit the car in front of me.

My whole left rear side is damaged, including the large left panel. Drivable so after exchanging info with the other two parties I made it home with the left bag door tied on to the saddle.

Unfortunately, while a CHP officer was taking our info another much more serious accident happened right next to us on the fast lane where a female passenger had to be taken on a stretcher. Onlookers I guess that got distracted looking at us and rear ended each other.

It happened right after 5pm when people push each other trying to get home asap.

I know I'm not the first to say this, I am so glad I picked a Spyder. Had I be riding a 2 wheeler this story could have been much more serious. I managed to stay on the bike, no scratches or bruises on me, just the shake up.

Taking it to the dealership tomorrow, see how much/long it'll take to put it back on the road.

Happy New Year everyone! Stay safe!

Glad you're ok -- hope the Spyder is, too...

Doing pretty well to make it this close to 50 without a mishap. Hope you're back on the Spyder real soon.

Glad you are ok and the bike will be fine too. I don't know about anybody else but kind of got wrapped around the awesome diagram of the accident you created. :2thumbs:

Crap happens, and I'm glad to hear that you didn't get caught up in the biggest pile of it! nojoke
Bikes can always be fixed or replaced; people are a different story.
Let us know how the insurance company treats you: good luck!

Glad to here that you made it through a scary situation with no injuries. Now, hopefully, your dealer will do a righteous job of putting your RTL back together.

Julio, Thanks for posting this, as it should help others also understand how to best protect themselves in a similar situation. As detailed as your diagram is, pointing your spyder with the biggest protection angled off the road like likely saved your left leg and if the follower had been coming harder or more off the road would have at least pushed you further away from an "accordian" type impact.
Congrats on your safety, prayers for your RTL's quick recovery, and I gotta ask, did you use Accidentsketch.com or are you an accident scene illustrator by profession, that is one awesome diagram. Did you even make the sketch vehicle colors match the actual incident? Well done either way.

Glad to hear you are safe and hope your ryde gets repaired quickly!
Thanks for the reminder that even on 3 wheels, I may not be invincible :yikes:

CHP

in my 9 yrs on a SPYD3R, i've had a number of close calls due to drivers that were occupied with things other than paying attention to their driving.... hopefully the CHP got the drivers phone number that hit you.... they can check to see if the driver was talking/texting on their phone when the accident happened.... the fines are getting higher n higher for this activity, and rightfully so... especially texting while driving... it's said that this is as dangerous a driving under the influence.... check with the CHP and ask if they checked....

This is a very common event.
