Hi all. I just recently purchased a 2014 Spyder RT-S. Due to my back issues I had been looking for a backrest. The Can-Am backrest was crazy priced @ $460. Then I came across a E-Bay deal. A stock backrest for $350. Only problem was that it was burgundy. Then I remembered what a friend of mine did to his cars leather seats. Looking around at all the options I settled on a product from ColorBond found on Amazon called:
[h=1]ColorBond (1873) Ford Lincoln Charcoal Black LVP Leather, Vinyl & Hard Plastic Refinisher Spray Paint - 12 oz.[/h]
It started out looking like this:
I un-zipped the cover from the mount and followed the instructions to prepare the material. I wanted to preserve the Spyder logo so I took one of my wife's tea candles and lit it. I then took a small paint brush and covered the logo stitching with the hot wax. Once I was happy that I had it covered well I hung it up in my garage:
And proceeded to re-dye or paint it. Once done I carefully "scratched" off the wax with an exacto knife and re-fit it over the mount. And here is the results:
Matched very nicely!!! And I saved $100!
Cheers!
