• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My 2014 ST makes a slight knocking noise about 4000 rpm, is this normal?

Depends....

:agree: From the brief explanation I would take it to the dealer and till then keep it under 4000. Before trying anything else..:lecturef_smilie:

just got back from the dealer, he said the engine sounds perfect. They are noisy engines in general he said.

I found that the knocking I was hearing was my wife beating on the back of my helmet. But the RPM was more in the neighborhood of 8,000 RPM and the knocking was not 'Slight'! :yikes:

The dealer was of no help in my situation... :dontknow:

P.S. Sometimes a different lubricant can help quiet internal engine noise.

What octane fuel were you using?

There have been times I have noticed some knocking noises as well. It comes and goes. Over the years I paid closer attention to what kind of fuel I was running and where it came from. I wondered if it was a bearing going, or actually slight detonation occurring. Only seems to happen on one of my Spyders, the 2013 ST-S.

I have come to the conclusion it is from less than ideal fuel quality. If I have good non-oxy premium then am forced to add some 87 octane with ethanol, it will start. Run that tank dry and go back to fresh 91 octane non-oxy premium and it goes away. But it is always in the back of my mind, what the hell is that noise that comes and goes......right now I chalk it up to fuel, it is the least constant variable over so many miles.

Could be too much load on the engine at 4,000 rpm for the given ground speed, also playing into the deto theory. The twin likes to rev.
