Music on a Garmin 660

Hay All,
I have a 2011 RT Limited and am trying to play Mp3s on my Garmin 660. I got them loaded on the memory card OK but when I play them I can only hear 1 channel through all speakers. Is this normal? I found the output from the 660 under the right side panel and it has both channels. I followed it to a connecter that has 5 wires. 2 are for power and 3 are for audio. It seems weard that I cant get stereo. My dealer says that the GPS is for voice only ahd I should not expect stereo from it. Is he right?

I am not sure that the GPS plays back in stereo. I do not think it does. The GPS only speaks instructions in mono and has only one speaker. Have you used your Google-Fu?

Not A2DP from the GPS I believe.

My Garmin 660 works fine on my 2013 RT-S. What format did you use to transfer the music to the card? MP3 format works great for me.

:agree: Mine works fine but I use it bluetoothed to my G4 in my helmet. A2DP is a bluetooth format and is not applicable for wired communications. Also the 660 only supports the MP3 format so check the format of the music loaded on your 660.

I assume your using the wired connection from the GPS to the bike via the BRP Communication harness?
If so it will be mono because the harness is made for voice and GPS communication. To get stereo to the radio you need the Bluetooth dongle and Sena SM10.

Or you can make your own cable and I can tell you how to wire the GPS to your radio input connector. It would be the same pins used to wire the Sena SM10 to the radio.

My 2013 ST is the same way. The left channel output from the garmin is output to both left and right speakers. The right output appears not to be connected to anything. Unless you want to get into rewiring, it looks like that's the way it is. I would recommend another music device.

Yes you could do that too! That would be easier to do for sure than buying the connectors and wiring to the radio!

Garmin 665 here. With BRP install kit for gps. Good stereo from both channels. My 550 is mono only. Not sure the 660 has stereo? Both of the above units have the WX, XM, and traffic antennae.

I am attaching a pic, the top portion is a screenshot from the 2013 Service manual showing the GPS connector, positive and ground wires, microphone connector, usb connector, and the tip, ring, and shield of the audio connector. The bottom portion is from the Garmin 660 manual showing the cable from the cradle.

I could not get directions or music to play through the audio system. After reading that others could, I went to the dealer to have them fix the problem. The service department had written it up, but checked with their salesman who knew all about the bike. He told me that there was no way to get the audio from the GPS to play through the bike speakers and without buying the dongle. I had to contact BRP and get them to send me the tech bulletin before the shop would open up the bike and plug the connector in properly. Needless to say, I tend to check twice now about anything they tell me.
