• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Murphy sucks

Knowing that today, Sunday, was going to be a sunny day, I had planned on cruising up to N. GA for the day. Also, the next several days are to be really good weather for cycling.

Not according to Murphy and his Laws. As I turned out of my street, the engine check light alternating with a picture of the handle bars, started flashing. :gaah:
Well, it was back to the house to pull out the manual to see what this all means? So, I guess it's the Dynamic Power Steering that has a problem? Funny, the steering was the same with no problems I noticed by me. :hun:

Guess I'll be taking the Spyder up to the dealer in Cartersville, GA for assessment tomorrow.
If there is a problem. I guess it will be fixed just when the weather turns bad at the end of the week because that's Murphy's Law. :banghead:

Dps

While waiting for a replacement dps for my 2008 GS I had the same problem. Someone on the forum suggested to take the spyder to a large empty lot and make a few figure 8 maneuvers. I did that and the light went out and did not return. A few weeks later the dps was replaced but no problems inbetween.

Fault

Unless Cartersville has changed, they only have the maintenance guys working Tues to Friday every week. They might have changed back, not sure about that.
They have done a few things for me and they were very good, but I guess you know that.

Did you try taking the key out for 15 to 30 minutes and putting it 20 feet or so away? That took care of my same problem last August. And also was required when my "automatic air bag" had to be re-programmed a few weeks ago. Lots of strange little electrical things in these bikes. :banghead:

Let us know how it works out.

Automatic air bag? Is that also known as a wife? Or is there something on the bike that has that name?:dontknow:

The DPS is the single biggest power draw on the Spyder.

Do you keep the Spyder on a Battery Tender when not riding?

I'm thinking that if you haven't been out for a while the battery may have been low and that would have caused your problem.

Try charging up the battery and see if that doesn't help.

As always, my free advice comes with a double your money back guarantee.

Sorry for the terminology. Took 1/2 a day (twice) to troubleshoot and reprogram the rear shock air bag auto inflate system with BUDS. Guess they never thought of a $5 pressure switch.
It could be a wife or significant other, if she were having a bad day!! Come to think about it ..............:banghead:

Is the DPS electrical in the way it works?

Because the dealer in Cartersville was one of the good rated dealers on this forum, is why I chose them for looking at my headlight modulator problem. That is why I'll talk to them about my DPS.
I purchased my Spyder from a dealer in NC who was selling it on consignment for the owner's.

I did get a letter from BRP yesterday about my warranty. They sent a card for me to carry to show to a dealer if I needed any work done. Just in time, I guess?

Careful guys... :lecturef_smilie: We can't leave anything laying around in here that might get somebody killed... :roflblack:

No problems in Carterville

Cavman -- I used the dealer in Carterville for routine servicing last summer. I was impressed with both service and price. Had me in-and-out in a couple of hours.

Unconnected question: Why CAVman? Any connection to......

"Cavman" Back years ago the State of GA would only allow you to get six letters on a vanity plate. I was really big into caving from the mid 1970's. Was a team leader on the largest cave rescue team in the country. 'I had mud in my blood'.
Up until last year, I had that license plate since 1978. The state has gotten greedy and has upped the extra fee on those plates to $35 a year. They even changed Ham Radio tags to vanity plates status. No Ham I know is renewing their tags because of this. What's next, the National Guard tags won't be free any more?

In Cavman, The "E" is pronounced, it's just not there.

Several spyder owners in the Columbus area go to Cartersville for service and I have found the techs to be very up to date with all ready to assist. They found me a hitch and trailer for my rt a couple of weeks ago with a fast install and fair price. They are a blue flag dealer. I met you at the Ga. meeting and I am available to ride if you need company. Riding to spyderfet on the 23rd to arrive on the 24Th. Trailer was bought to haul purchases and freebies home.

Tuck, I called and got their message machine. You are right, Winter time they are closed Sunday and Mondays. Left them a message that I would call back on TUesday.

Took the Spyder in today has the guy ran the serial number thru the system. It seems that the DPS had previously been changed. They will get to it in the next day or so.
They had a flood of owners bringing in their products to be worked on. I'm guessing things that float as that season is nearing.

Got a call around 3pm today to come and pick up my Spyder. Wow, that was quick!
Seems that there is a sensor that senses where the steering is located. Seems that it had some
sort of querk and read the wrong info. They fixed/reset it with their computer.
Will unload the Spyder off the trailer in the daylight tomorrow.
