There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. :sour: I have bought and tried a couple of high end mufflers for my RT AND have not been completely satisfied . I am going to try a couple of
automotive mufflers and then have my shop weld the final product together. I don't see spending 400+ on bike specific mufflers, when
they're just welded up cans! 20 bucks on 2.5'' 45 degree stainless steel pipe and 42$ on 4'' muffler total spent.:) will post sound and pics when done.:firstplace:dodge srt has some nice resonators that I want to try aswell..

What exactly is it, that you're trying to accomplish?

I'll bet he's trying to get a sound he likes without having to spend a few hundred bucks a pop on trial and error. IMO, a worthwhile endeavor. I don't personally believe there's good value in the relatively few aftermarket muffs available to us.

JUST A THOGHT ON THIS

I just love People who can think out of the BOX .....go for it , and keep us posted....Mike     :2excited: :agree:

Look at SuperTrapp universal automotive muffler. All welded stainless steel and rebuildable. for about $240 delivered. At Summit Racing.

Modify the original

Cut the end off the rear, measure 7" off the rear, weld the inner and outer skins together, grind the surface smooth, then weld the end back on, paint with high temp paint, reinstall the end bezel. All you have spent is some time. The results are quite good, a much better sound.

yeah I am doing this aswell as soon as I find a replacement oem muffler. gotta keep my original incase I ever trade or sell my bike.but -I hear ya bro ! :2thumbs: I bet I am going to find the right looks and the right sound for less then 100 bucks....sure beats 400+ on others that has glorified glasspacks on them:doorag:

PIPE SIZE

Looking at aftermarket auto muffs..what's the diameter of the the pipe that goes into our stock RT muff?

When looking in the Automotive arena for mufflers etc......they have more adapters than you can possibly imagine......larger to smaller ....smaller to larger etc.....it's endless.....................Just sayin...Mike

magnaflow sounds great, had a muffler shop weld a piece of stainless pipe to the muffler, direct replacement on my 2011 RTSDSC00047.jpg

DIY MUFFLER MOD

DIY is the ONLY way to go.......
003.jpg006.jpg010.jpg013.jpg014.jpg took 9" out of it, and it sounds AWESOME..... :trike:

It is a two bolt flange, and the muffler shop put it on before they welded the pipe to the muffler.

Thx...not sure why I typed 3, I was just under there yesterday doing the rear brakes. Seems simple enough, I wonder why more folks don't go this route.

I like this what muffler did you use and did you make a thread with instructions. Thanks:thumbup:

Drifter;
all i did was section the OEM muffler at the fwd & aft welds... then you slide out the 'guts'... the 'RED' muffler is your standard CHERRY BOMB glass-pak (SUMMIT RACING, $43)... i cut both ends off the CHERRY leaving the welds in place... remove the CAT from the fwd end of the OEM muffler, welded the CHERRY to that end... next: grinding out the weld tabs on the perfcore so that all the internals fall from the perf-core, i then cut the outter-body by 9 inches & perf-core by 10 inches, reinserted the insulation & perf-core to the outter-body, leaving 1/2" overlap at each end of the outter body... now with the CHERRY welded in place to the fwd end, i slipped the body over the CHERRY, welding it to the fwd end..... then, using a couple short length of scrap metal, i welded these to the end of the CHERRY and to the perf-core... this stops any vibrations once under way... i then positioned the End Cap to the body, and welded that in place... both welds on the fwd & aft sections of the body are following the OEM welds that were in place at the beginning... once all fabrication was completed, i use an abrasive cloth (fine) to clean the body, and then painted it with High Temp Rustoleum BBQ grill paint... reinstall muffler to SPYD3R, and VAROOOOOM.....

more pix to aid in your DIY project:
first picture is from my 1st MOD, and i've placed it here only to show you what the 'internals' look like... this is NOT the CHERRY BOMB version.... couple the other 4 pix with my original post, and you should get a good idea as to how you need to go about your project... good luck, and have fun...
PS: Drifter, this is an RS muffler, NOT an RT... i've done RT's before, and they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT....
