• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Move over Sena, Cardo G4 & others

Interesting --- but doesn't have many of the options the Sena has---the ability to plug in earbuds is a major plus for the Sena IMO.

Note to those looking to buy Sena units---- just heard that starting in June they will be shipping a 'programmable' version of the SMH10.

Ticks me off as I just bought a dual set before Cuba--- and had inquired with 2 dealers AND directly with Sena and was told not to expect the upgraded units to be released this year....:gaah:

I also heard that Sena is releasing a new version within a week that will have a USB port for program updates similar to the Scala G4.

If I was about to buy, I sure would look for the new SENA.

If the sound quality is as good as it is reported on webbikeworld then why would you need earbuds? :dontknow:

To protect ears from wind/bike/road noise----:D

I just find it easier to use my Fuze Earbuds rather than also carry ear plugs.... assuming you'd still wear earplugs when using the Uclear helmet speakers.....

Earbuds cut down outside sounds so you don't need to crank the volume so high. Makes everything clearer.

I own a couple sets of the UClears. I think they're amazing to be honest, but not without some complaints.

1> They could be louder maybe? Without earplugs in, they're plenty loud. But with earplugs in (which I wear on longer trips) they're "ok" for me... but my wife cannot understand anything at all with earplugs in. Maybe for the younger crowd this isn't an issue, maybe it's just my wife. She seems to think she has some hearing problems but... :dontknow: We even tried the Surefire Ear Defenders which are supposed to allow sounds under 85db to pass through... didn't help her, but so far I can't complain.

2> Music from my HTC EVO (android) is way short on bass. Uclear says that they've never had a complaint before so they're wondering if it's my android phone. I haven't really messed with it since. I didn't buy this to listen to music, but I have to give fair warning for those who might. Uclear will take them back if you're not happy.

That's really all the negatives. If they had an earbud plugin then #1 would be solved and probably #2 as well. Then they would be perfect. I have contacted the company requesting this feature and have actually talked with one of their engineers about it. I'm waiting for info about possibly making my own adapter that allows the microphone array to remain connected while bypassing the speakers into a plug for earbuds. Who knows if that will happen anytime soon tho.

I absolutely love not having a boom in my face. I don't even notice it's installed. It's smaller than the others.

It's very easy to install (in the helmets I have anyhow). Came with double mounting sets so you can do 2 helmets. Takes 10 seconds to switch from one to another that way. I moved my wife's set to my brother's helmet in 2 minutes so he could try it out...

Easy to use. Buttons are not too bad to find with gloves on but could be better (the Sena is probably the best interface for gloved hands.)

Not sure on the battery life yet. Haven't had any trips long enough to drain it.

Range of the bike to bike is fairly short... maybe 100 yards or so. Good enough for some things, need to use the phone if you get separated. They do have a module that connects to most FRS/GMRS radios to use them with the Uclear wirelessly.

The noise cancellation is very good. I've had conversations while on the highway with people who couldn't tell I was riding. One of them even said "Oh! New bluetooth? Sounds great!" YMMV of course. I was also impressed with the sound quality of voice/phone.

Still hoping for earbud interface myself...

Good points all the way around. Considering the Uclear is using the mics integrated into the speakers - I wouldn't hold your breath for an ear-bud option.

The Sena has awesome options for mounting --- I don't use the 'boom' mic on my full face---

100 yards is horrible-- the Sena is 980 yards......

If anyone wants to sell their sena and give this one a try. I would be willing to take it off your hands for a good price. :D :shemademe_smilie:

Check your wife's helmet speaker location. The speakers must be directly above the ear canal for best volume and clarity...especially with earplugs. Being off even a half inch or less makes a huge difference.

Relocated both my speakers and my wife's... hers were WAY off... they're much closer to her ears now but the helmet limits where they can be placed so they're still about half an inch off center.

Mine on the other hand were in the right spot, but one of them was tilted down like 30 degrees from the other! they're supposed to be aligned and pointed at your mouth (I think?). Anyhow they've been adjusted and we did a quick test. Better... but still need a longer test at higher speeds.

I have my fingers crossed. Other reviews rave about how good these things are...

more to come.

well what do you know...

Moving them around made all the difference in the world... these are now living up to all the hype!

I can ride with my helmet flipped open (Shoei Multitec) at 60mph and my wife can hear me just fine! I am amazed at how well the invisible microphone picks up voice. No ugly boom in my face!

So to amend my review, we can finally talk while riding clearly when needed. They still are only "ok" for music... and the only complaint I have left is the range of bike to bike varies from 30 feet to 300 feet seemingly at random.

I did notice that it is very line of sight sensitive. A bike or cage inbetween can cut the range down severely. Also, we have them mounted towards the rear of the left side of the helmet. When turning left (and looking left) we have less range because the two units can't "see" each other.

Very happy with my purchase (finally...) and now I'm considering the GMRS/FRS addon to increase the range (miles!) and number of people who can chat at once (unlimited!)

True !! I just shipped mine off for a swap to the new version (plus $98). Being able to upgrade software from time to time is great.
