• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have a RAM mount on my ESI risers; one on each side. I have 2 powerlet outlets; one on each side of the dash. If you do a search, you'll find photos of the different places where others have mounted their GPS's.

You may want to look at the various mounts offered by RAM here:

http://www.ram-mount.com/ramcat.htm

If you see something you like, google the p/n. Most other places charge a little less than RAM.

Check out the various outlets/sockets here:

GPS Mount

Thanks, I wasn't sure if a lighter unit would fit in the dash, but will start taking it apart, after my ride today. This could be the last ride this year in PA

The powerlets are smaller in diameter than a U.S. style 12v socket. They use a smaller plug though, that are specifically designed to not rattle loose from the socket due to vibration such as found on bikes. While many have put standard 12v U.S. sockets in their dash, I think many here have installed the powerlets or are planning to versus the U.S. style. * Just make sure you get the right powerlet GPS cable to properly power your unit.

I mounted my GPS via a Ram Mount up on my CHAD windshield mounting bracket. Keeps the GPS up closer in my field of view versus looking down at the bugger on the handlebars. Matter of personal preference for most, but for me also safer in my opinion.

I went with one of these.

The Ram mount for 1 1/2" handlebars will clamp down tight with a thin piece of vinyl in a single wrap in-between to protect finish. It fits around the cast aluminum handlebar and the black plastic cap underneath with no modification to the stock handlebar. It does not budge and the quality is top notch. E-bay seller was good to deal with. Another thread on this site turned me on to him.

I would go with Powerlet (BMW type) outlets in the dash. That's what I did. Lots of ways to do the RAM mount, depending on your accessories and Spyder model. Clutch reservoir mounts, ESI riser mounts, CHAD windshield mounts, and handlebar mounts are all possible.

Thanks for the picture of the CHAD Scotty. That may be just the ticket for adding the GPS to my wife's Spyder, if she wants to take it along.

I have the zumo 550 hard-wired to the battery...I also have a lock on the mount as they will disappear as well...IMHO, the hard-wire is the best way to go...make sure you lock your RAM mount as well...your GPS doesn't work too well without a power source or bracket...

I think I posted the details of this sometime back. If you can't find it, drop me a PM and I'll dig up the details. Fairly easy, but it takes a little tweaking and the right parts.

Lamont;

Did you just use a 1" ball on the bracket, or did you modify another bracket to move the GPS to the center? I really like that position for the Spyder.

I have the lock already, and need to move the GPS between the Spyder & Valk, where I'm thinking about mounting it on the Triple clamp cover... I use the bar clamp for my coffee cup holder already....

Question for you Scotty?

Scotty,

What size RAM ball was that connected to your windshield mount?

RAM-B-348U RAM BASE W/1/4"-20 HOLE & 1" BALL

RAM-B-260U RAM 1" BALL W/ #10-24 THREADED HOLE

I ask this as I am going to try the same thing as to give me other options in mounting my new Zumo 550 (thanks Santa!). I am awaiting on my new MadStad RoboBrackets to come in and would do the same kinda set up to the M5 T-Screws. So I need a threaded RAM ball which would tread to one of these M5 T-Screws, anyone out there know the right thread hole?

GPS mount on the RT

I recently purchased a Garmin Zumo660 for my soon to arrive RT. It comes with a full compliment of mounting choices, the Ram system included. I'm sure that most of you have noticed that the RT has a center handle bar mounting system for the BRP 660 option. A very neat and un-clutterd mount with only one wire barely visible. My question, is there a BRP mounting adaptor that fits/mounts on the handlebar hub that mates up with the Garmin? My dealer doesn't know. Muchas Gracias mi amigo's...Jornie1:ohyea:

The CHAD windshield takes the 1/4"-20 thread. An M5 screw would need a 5 mm (M5) thread. Not sure there is any such animal available. You'd probably have to use something with a drilled base bracket, like the RAM-B-272U, bolted in place. Look in the RAM lists at GPSCity.com.

I also like www.mountguys.com for RAM mounts and www.easternbeaver.com for my powerlet/motorcycle power stuff.

I highly recommend both. :2thumbs:

The guy on easternbeaver.com is in Japan but ships faster than places right here in California to my house. Quality stuff and he is very knowledgeable. He'll even do custom stuff.

I'm glad you posted both web addresses. I've purchased from both and they are excellent. I lost their web addresses the other week when my p.c. crashed.
