• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

More tire frustration

Ok,my 17RT has Vredensteins on the front which seem to be holding up well, although I just had to get a Roadforce balance job done in order to get rid of a pesky vibration problem that Ive just been living with for the last 13k miles.Last year I got a Kanine Kr20 on the back which has been worn bald in about 14k miles so now Im in the market again for another rear tire.I see a lot of people liking the Qatrac but it doesnt come in the stock size which bothers me because I dont want a skinnier tire and since I ride 2 up most of the time I feel a taller tire will take away some of the pull out power and I dont care at all about fixing the slight speedo error. So that leaves me with the Kumho ecsta 225/50/15.Is anyone running this tire and how do you like it especially in the rain,I always seem to get caught in heavy rain on the highway and Im concerned about hydroplaning? Also wondering if its noisy or rough riding?

If " hydro-planing " is a concern. A lot of folks here have reported that, the Kumho Ecsta starts losing WET road traction at about 1/2 of the tread life. ..... I suggest the General Altimax RT 43 @ 215/60-15 .... It is a much better tire......good luck .... Mike

Kuhmo? Not so much...

My last rear tire was a Kuhmo Ecsta PS31 and while the traction seemed fine (better than Kenda, not as good as current Yokohama), it was worn out at 9000 miles. It also seemed to upset Nanny more than the Kenda and much more than the Yokohama, suggesting sidewall flex. I've never ridden in the rain , so I can't help with wet performance evaluation.

Don't get too hung up on the numerical sizes provided by the manufacturer. The physical dimensions of the tires are often quite different from the sidewall printed numbers.

I'm soon to be on my second Altimax. Have approx 25k on my first one with "0" issues. 2up about 1/4 of the time. Ran 18psi (cold) and had a wee bit too much center wear so I'm going down to 16/17 and see how that works. Good tire.

Why avoid the Qatrac?? :dontknow:

You tell us you don't care about correcting the speedo but DO care about ryding in the rain, and the Qatrac is designed to be better in the wet than most other tires that'll work/fit on a Spyder?? :lecturef_smilie:

Besides that, even without the extra siping & specialist wet performance tread design of the Qatrac, a (very slightly) taller & skinnier tire will make very little (if any) difference to your 'pull out power' but it'll be a big help in reducing any propensity for hydroplaning, especially when you're running appropriate tire pressure & not running at silly speeds... :ohyea:

So I'd think that a slightly taller & narrower Qatrac sounds like exactly what you're after....
