There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Mono seat cowl vs urban rack

Looking for some opinions on the mono seat cowl vs the urban rack. Which one does everybody like and why? Thanks

Cowl

I added the mono seat cowl last month. LOVE IT!
Now, I got a 20% discount off of the price, so that didn't hurt.

Honestly, though, if you're buying this as a storage unit, it is NOT worth the $. However, I bought it as a "farkle" that just happened to have some storage capability...that is, I knew that this was not a "practical" purchase...but it DOES look cool. Changes the entire look of the Spyder...very slick! Actually, I was surprised by just how much I did like it after it was in place. Also, I can put all of my "routine" driver's "stuff" (gloves, etc.) in it with some room to spare.

I'll leave the cowl installed except for long trips when i need to use my Kuryakyn Gran Tour Bag...I'll replace the Cowl with the OEM seat so that Tour Bag can sit on it. Around town and on routine rides, however, I'll have the Cowl in place.

Summary: Not a practical expenditure...value for $...but a great expenditure for esthetics.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Never considered the Urban Rack because I didn't really like the styling and it had even less storage capability. Also, if I want to put something behind me, I can use the OEM seat...bungie-cording extra stuff on top of the Urban Rack seems like a clumsy compromise. Just my HO. (Of course, I lose that option when the Cowl is installed.)

I have the mono seat. And, I love it. It has the look to the bike. I was about to get the bobber kit; however, I had an extra item to place in my garage. Therefore, I decide to get a mono seat. And, I thought what I want to put some saddle bags on my F3-S. Here is a video for you to see.

Possible to drill a small hole to slip a cord through that is connected to the USB charger underneath?

Urban Rack

I have the urban rack and love it. Granted the storage in it isn't great, but its enough to throw in essentials. What I like best is it is made out of aluminum and has pads on top. There is also a cut out on the bottom so it doesn't activate the passenger sensor and I bungee my dry bag to it. If you use it to place luggage on top, I recommend getting Lamonster's bungee buttons. (the bungee buttons fit the F3 and F3-T)

Does the mono cowl also have a cut out under it for the passenger sensor?

I got my wife the Urban Rack mainly because it is made out of aluminum and she can strap stuff on top.

Sure it is smaller, but what are you really going to put in there instead putting it in the frunk?

If you put stuff on the Mono cowl it will scratch it up.

Plus, I picked the Urban Rack up for $100 on eBay last winter.

thats way beyond "if you want the best you gotta pay for it"! A thousand clams for a little box - sheeesh.

I have the Yellow Mono Cowl and Really like the look BUT the key to open it is a pain in the U NO What?

Yes. And you can always remove the "cover" for the sensor to make more room if there are any issues from manufacturing tolerances etc... I had no problems with mine but have read of some folks having issues with even the stock seat tripping the sensor with no one on it and putting the bike in limp mode. As others have said, LOVE the cowl for the styling and how it works in changing the looks/styling of the byke but the amount of storage is for day use only....

Wife has one on here F3T, we take it off for extended trips and put the stock seat back to strap items down on top of it. As someone else mentioned its more for styling than practical use, only small items will fit, glasses, cell cords and basic tools. As for the speed sensor there is a cutout that disables it from being activated while the cowl is in place so unless its installed wrong that should be a non issue.

Oh again as someone mentioned the lock can be clunky to deal with I suggest you lube it from time to time, if your pocket allows purchase go for it I admit it does add a sporty look.

Happy holidays.

Does it allow a driver seat backrest?
