"I was able to modify a Kuryakyn cup-holder to fit my RT"
What were the modifications that you made?
Here is a picture of what it looked like BEFORE the mod....I took out the stud that was attached to the chrome cupholder ring.
Then I went to Lowes and bought a longer metric bolt & plastic bushing. (Total cost for the bolts and plastic bushings was about $1.25)
To mount the cupholder, I simply removed the OEM bolt from the housing, placed a small washer on the longer bolt, inserted the bolt from the inside of the cupholder thru the hole that was left from removing the stud in the cupholder....Then added another washer, then the plastic bushing and just re-attached the whole thing into the housing. I did use some Loctite upon reassembly.
I did make some final adjustments for the length of the plastic bushing, and drilled out the bushing because it wouldn't fit over the bolt, but it actually didn't take me too long once I had everything figured out.
I thought about mounting it on the outside hole, but I liked the position where I placed it...If it gives me problems with turning, I will probably move it...
If you look at the picture in my original post, you can see the only thing I used from Kuryakyn was the actual chrome ring...
Hope this helps...I do still have the packages that the longer metric bolts and plastic bushings came in if anyone needs the length, diameter, etc.....
