• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Mobil 1 Usability?

Had a club oil change party yesterday. We were 1st timers at doing our own oil changes. I bought Mobil 1 Oil with API classification SN, SM, SL. SL classification meeting BRP requirement. Before I started a club member pointed out that the owners manual had a notice, which I had missed, stating not to use API rated SM oil because it could harm clutch. On left side of page 127 is the notice, "to avoid damaging the clutch, do not use a motor oil meeting the API service SM or ILSAC GF-4 classification. Clutch slippage will occur". I'll take back Mobil 1 oil although I believe it is a very good product. No harm done had not changed oil will just use Amsoil for my own oil changes from now on. Just a heads up for those, like me, that might have missed notice.

When I joined Spyderlovers, I made a similar mistake in a post about using Mobil 1.

The new 1330 engine is not affected by the restriction of an SM rating, but all wet clutch vehicles need to be cautious of using motorcycle oils recommended for use with the wet clutch.

Most automotive oils contain additives, such as molybdenum disulfide which is very slippery, and is drawn towards heat.

Regardless of if you run Amsoil or not, just be certain your oil is rated for the wet clutch.

There are some very long and debated oil topics on this website. It seems best in my opinion when those posting state which vehicle they are dealing with.

My profile shows a 2013 RT-SE. As I said in thread I think that Mobil products are very good - just not for wet clutches if they show SM rating ;-)

Mobil 1 makes a good synthetic motorcycle oil. It is Mobil 1 Racing 4T fully synthetic motorcycle oil. As the previous post stated just make sure you use the right grade of oil. Newer oils intended for automobiles contain moly and it will ruin a clutch in a hurry. As long as you stay with 4 cycle motorcycle oil you are safe with any brand.

When I mentioned how it is nice when people post their vehicle, please understand that your signature does not carry over when you hit reply. It's all good, just gets confusing for others at times since there is two oil requirements between the different models of engines.

Have fun
