• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Missing belt guard

I am looking to get a 2015 RT Limited in a few weeks. Is the "Missing Belt Guard" worth it? I am doing the most fun part of new ownership, aside from riding: Forecast farkling! :2thumbs::roflblack:

Risky..!!

Once you start you know how it goes..:roflblack: the guard is good to have especially on gravel roads and driveways. Many times you may come on to those in certain areas. Simple installation and belts are expensive...

Good advice above. If you encounter rocks often, I would recommend the belt guard right away. If they are occasional, just keep the speed down so you will not be throwing rocks into the belt.

Belts are expensive. A belt with installation, costs about $350. Towing is extra.

Ask me how I know? I have done two. nojoke

I thought about the belt guard as an insurance policy. It is not that expensive and may prevent an expensive repair. It is an easy install.
The only mistake I made was removing the supplied cardboard spacer before the installation. It's there to help with centering between the tire and belt.

Belt guard

Installed a belt guard correctly last fall leaving equal room between belt and tire, after 1000 miles before putting away for winter everything looked good. After sitting thru the winter and taking a few long rides last week I noticed chaffing on side of tire, the belt guard was now rubbing the tire.Following the instructions I bent it back away from tire but after another 100 miles it was back againest tire.I finally removed it and thru it away.I am thinking the cold over the winter caused it to not retain its shape.Maybe I just got a bad one but didn't want to take the chance of ruining a tire.I will just be carefull to stay off gravel roads.

Betl Guard

I am getting one for my 2014 RTS-SE6 for the same reasons that everyone has mentioned on this thread. Deanna

Got mine a couple of months ago - still sitting on a shelf though. Thanks for the reminder to actually install it. :D

After I installed mine(not quite centered), I was able to trim away just the small bit that would have rubbed.

I've had one on both Spyders that I own, and so far no issues. On my GS it did rub the tire a bit, but I didn't see it as an issue. BTW, I drive about a half mile on a gravel road to my house. I do keep the speed down low though.

Get the missing belt guard---

It's like an insurance policy. It's good to have for the day when you need it and belt's are expensive.

I had a belt guard on my 2012 and now on my 2015 RT-Limited. The front tires pick up rocks all the time you can hear them on the fenders.

I live about a mile and a quarter on gravel roads. So to us it is a necessary "Farkle"!

Like someone else posted on here, you just never know where you may ride to or end up going and if it is on gravel---why take a chance? Easier on the heart and mind knowing you got that protection instead of coming upon a path that might not be in the best shape and holding on to a hope and a prayer. This is an easy and wise farkle. Go for it.

Hello there ;)
Here comes a greeting from Sweden
(Ps. Google translation is my best friend (hihi))
I have my own "private" blog about my ride with the Spyder RT and how it is to own a Spyder in Sweden. Has long been thought to share with you about the blog but now it happens ;)
The Missing belt guard is top. Had previously an RTS in 2011 and where the template is often the strap. Now on my RT LTD 2014 I have mounted guard. Really pleased with the choice!
If you want to look in my blog so is it on http://www.spyderride.se :)
(Ps. Totally free from advertising ;) it is mine)
Interested in my installation of the belt guard are here: http://www.spyderride.se/AttAgaSpyder/own_spyder_02.htm#150201_Extra_remskydd
My blog is in Swedish if you do not know the language you do like me and this little message using a translation program type above stated :)

Have an awesome time! Who knows, I might turn up here on this wonderful forum again ;)
All is not Facebook. I like forums where even after a period of time can find what you want :)

Greetings from Sweden
Right now -2 degrees C, but the snow is finally gone

Hello over to Sweden.I had installed my belt guard properly, leaving equal distance between the belt and tire and there was no problem until it set thru the winter. That is when the plastic shifted againest the tire.Even after bending back it would go back againest the tire.I removed it,maybe i got one that was affected by the enviorment.I am not buying another one to take the chance of it happening again.

First mod

I think( foggy old brain) that the missing belt guard was my first farkle. Quickly followed by the bumpskid plate,Anti-sway bar, and High mount brake light.
It's good insurance as belt replacement is expensive.
