• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Missing Air Box

A friend and I installed the missing heat shield and the air management part. The next part to be installed was going to be the new Evoluzione air filter. Imagine our surprise when we saw a bright red one piece oval shaped w/ rounded top "high flow" foam filter that fits across the 2 valves of the carburator. Looking at the photo in the instructions for the Evoluzione filter, it was obvious that Hot Red was missing something!!! We took the red foam rubber filter off, noted a small amount of oily dirt on the surface, cleaned it off as well as we could, put it back in place, and replaced the Tupperware. I assume that the previous owner removed the airbox. I sort of doubt that he did this himself, as he had a lot of things put on this 08 SE 5 prior to selling it to me with 1500 miles on it. It has about 2600 miles on it now. My question is: Has anyone seen one of these red foam rubber filters and are they a better or a not so good filter than the Evoluzione air filter? If anyone knows about or has one of these red foam rubber filters, how should they be cleaned and how would be recommended to try to obtain a OE air box and put this new Evoluzione filter in it or keep the red foam rubber filter? This :spyder2: had a LOT of modifications done to it. I have a feeling that I am going to find more hidden secrets as time goes by. Also, does anyone know of something that could be attached to my '08 SE5 that would hold a lidded coffee cup? Thank you, in advance, for any suggestions, and advise. Sandy

Hold on a sec and don't ride the bike until you get this taken care of!

You cannot just clean that filter and throw it back in! You must treat it with foam filter oil. The oil is what does the filtering. The foam won't filter anything without the oil on it. They sell foam filter cleaner and spray-on oil kits. Go to your local MC shop that sells dirt bikes and they should carry the cleaner and oil.

When you clean it spray the whole thing down and squeeze the cleaner into the filter. Let it sit for 10 min. Rinse by placing it under a faucet or with a hose and make sure you feed the water from the inside of the filter to the outside (put hose inside big holes). Repeat this process again and you should be clean.

Then let the air filter naturally dry overnight. Once dry, you can spray it Down With new oil and reinstall.

Gee Sandy,
Every time you get to looking under the "Tupperware", it's like Christmas... Unfortumately not all of the surprises have been good... It might not be the worst idea to have a dealer put your :spyder2: up on the lift and really look it over to find all of these modifications. You don't want to find yourself working at cross-purposes here; the complete story might make things easier in the future. Good Luck! :D
