• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Miscellaneous Ramblings

1. I tried the drain plug from "Magnetic drain plugs." I had the mechanic install it when I had the 600 mile service. He said that it was very hard to install (start the threads) since the magnet wants to pull to the metal housing. Oh, I hadn't thought of that. He must have had trouble indeed. There's a small drip. I pulled the drain plug to find that the O-ring was scarred a bit. If the plug is that much trouble, I think I'll stick with the stock one and put a magnet on the side of the oil tank. I also noticed that the threads on the tank are very deep. If you should ever booger the threads at the bottom, you should be able to get a longer bolt with the same thread pitch and be okay (hopefully that wont happen to you.)

2. Driving / Fog / DRL's on a Base RT. I would like a little extra light, but the OEM fog lights look like they don't put out that much light. If you're RT did not come with fog lights, all you need to wire up driving / fog lights is the OEM Fog light switch (and buy a light). If that light has a dual brightness function, then you can have DRL's as well. Under the nose (by the top of the shock) is the stock plug for the Fog lights. If you install the OEM dash switch - no need to wire from the battery. Tan wire is DRL: bike running, fog light switch OFF. When you switch on the fog light switch the grey wire w/ green stripe also becomes powered: Full light. The OEM switch was fairly easy to install.

3. Keep one or two extra of the body work rubber grommets. I have had the body work off a couple of times (snooping). I have seen the grommets move or get almost pushed out of the body panel. When I had the 600 mile serivce done, one of the lower bodywork grommets disappeared. Oh darn. I pulled one off of the inner noise suppression piece to substitute but will have to get another for replacement. Might as well get two of the larger ones to keep on hand.

#3 is good advice John. I suggested in another thread that one of our sponsors should build up a 'I screwed up' kit that would contain various gromets, screws, push pins, and valium.

I suggest you glue the grommets in. Clean the area with alcohol or prep sol, then glue the rubber in with 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive or RTV silicone. Be sure and let the glue cure before reinstalling the panel. BRP has a service bulletin for dealers to glue in the grommets. When putting the panels in place, wetting the panel stud or the grommet first helps, too.

Thanks Scotty....
