• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Mirror Takes An Unscheduled Trip

I had my recall service performed on my 2013 RT ltd a week ago. On the next weekend ride I crossed a railroad track at about 15 mph only to have the mirror fly off and bounce onto the pavement. The driver behind me had the presence of mind to avoid it, and my wife retrieved the parts. To my amazement, we were able to reassemble and reinstall the mirror. Nothing was broken or damaged except for a plastic hook in the bottom portion of the mirror housing and some scuffs on the chrome cover. The parallel spring wires in the retainers look intact and straight. My question is this: Since this happened right after the service, I can't help but believe the mirror was not installed correctly by the service tech. Shouldn't this be covered by warranty under any circumstance? It appears that the mirror must be ordered as a unit for $150. It wouldn't be acceptable for a mirror to fly off on a 30K auto, would it? Also, will the damaged hook weaken the integrity of the entire assembly? Finally, I like to keep my bike in perfect condition, and the tiny scuffs annoy me every time I look at them! Has anyone else lost a mirror this way, and did your dealer step up?

Lucky you got it back. Had one unscrew off my 73 sportster and over the bridge rail it went. Lol
Damn bike shook so bad I sold it after the frame broke at 3000 miles. Last HD I'll ever own.

Bummer..!!

but this would be a dealer claim. Can't help with your other questions the mirrors on the RS are bolted on. I would check with the dealer as to how secure it will be if all the securing parts are not there. More to come from those who know.....habg on..!! :dontknow:

I think the dealer should make it right. But in the future you should check all of your panels and mirrors after service as it happens fairly often that panels fly off immediately after service.

I had a similar experience. Went to a dealer for the recall and on the way home (about a 60 mile ride) I noticed my right mirror was loose. It did not fall off and when I got it home I took it all the way off and tried to figure out what was wrong. Since I am mech challenged I could not fix it so I took it to another dealer (another 40 mile ride) and they fixed it in about 5 min. The spring that goes round the stud on the front bottom had widened just enough to let the mirror flop in the breeze. I felt like an idiot that I could not figure out the problem and fix it myself. Oh well it is fine now.
