• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Miles to Empty

I thought that when I was looking to buy a Spyder, I watched a youtube video and the guy was on a Spyder (model unknown) but he was talking about getting low on gas and he looked at the dash and said something like "oh I still got 35 miles to empty".

I can't find a "miles to empty" on my dash anywhere. Does it exist?

No there is no such beast. He probably saw his low fuel light on and that should give you a little more than 1 gallon of fuel.

There's no "Miles to Empy" indicator on the Spyder, but after you've ridden it awhile you gain a pretty good vision of how many miles you have left when you look at your fuel gauge or when the warning light comes on. It helps to reset one of your trip meters to zero everytime you fill up, so you can usually tell just by looking at how many miles you've ridden since the last fill-up.

Well:agree: there is no such thing...most will keep track of the mpg's till they can get a good average and then estimate a gallon + at the average. Seeing as it is hard to say how much gas is left or if the average applies I do the one gallon at the average and carry a liter bottle of gas with me....:thumbup:

A lot of us set the register A to zero every time we fill up. Then, we have an idea of how many miles on the current tank. Most 998's will give you 150 miles before you look for gas. Most 1330's will give you at least 200 miles before you look for gas. A simple look and calculation will give you the magic number.

EG: I currently show 170 miles on my A register. I have about 30 miles before I need to start looking for gas.

Each :ani29: is a bit different. Get to know yours well. Always fill to the same level.

I'll start using trip A to track.....if I can figure out how to reset it. Been having too much fun riding to RTFM.....

Yes, there is a low fuel light. Mine actually come on at the 150 or 200 mark (most of the time) depending on which machine I am riding. If you don't fill to the same level each time, the low fuel light may come on at different mileages. The A meter is the best check.

RESET: Press Mode till you get the screen (I think its the second one). You can toggle between trip A and B by using the right/left buttons. Zero by pushing the bottom button.

I believe that it's about two pushes of the mode button. That should get you to the trip odometers.
Push the "Down" button to clear one, then push the "right" button to move to the other.
One more push of the "right" button, and you should be back to where you started.
To get back to the main screen; it's either one, or maybe two more pushes of Mode...
(I just did this, and can't remember... :opps:)
 
Finding empty

Just put my wife on the back and you won't have to worry about running out . She keeps her eyes on the gauge and miles like a hawk . Ain't easy pushing an empty spyder either ....don't ask me how I know .:banghead:

As others have said, not on the dash ..... BUT, if you've got the 'BRP option GPS' (maybe only the 660 tho?!?) you can set your GPS to show 'Miles to Empty' on the main Map display along with your Speed, altitude, & a bunch of other stuff! And when your GPS reckons you've travelled the miles you estimate you can go on a tank before needing to start looking for gas, your (preset but adjustable) Low Fuel Warning level will chime & gives you a warning plus a light/indicator on the Map screen AND the GPS will also show you where all the nearby gas stations are!! :thumbup:

Handy thing, sometimes.... IF you set them up right!! ;)

be aware..... if you press the up arrow, that will pause the counter, the milage will not change till you hit the up arrow again

But it will only pause whichever trip meter you have showing when you pause it - so if you pause Trip A, Trip B will still be counting away, & vice versa - but you are absolutely right vided, that can be a bit of a trap (bet you can guess how I know!! :opps: )

I'm not exactly sure why the ability to pause a trip odometer is part of this system. :shocked:

How about....

Use one Trip meter to measure your distance between fill ups & the other to measure the total distance of a specific point to point trip.... then decide you want to do a bit of a side trip/detour off the point to point path that you don't want included in that measured distance but still want in the distance between fill ups......

Or or use one Trip meter to measure the whole trip distance travelled of a many day trip, & the other to measure the distance between cities along your route, but you don't want to include the 'extra distance' you put in when you jump on the Spyder to duck down the street for a meal or a movie after you've settled in to your accom for the night....

Or use one to measure total trip or maybe distance between fill ups or whatever, & the other to measure & record the distance between major turns or sights along your route; only you missed the turn off you wanted to take & now hafta go back to find it but don't want to stuff up your recording....

There's millions of possible reasons/uses it could be put to & probably heaps of possible uses that you wouldn't even dream of at first thought... and now that you know the feature is there you might even find something you can use it for - just don't get sprung by pausing it when you didn't plan to! :thumbup:
