• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Might be worthwhile to wait.

I'm just patiently doing my research here before I lay out any serious cash for a new ride. It looks to me like the RT went through a refinement from 2010 through 2012, then came the redesign for 2013 and things got worse (at least for some). Now BRP is introducing a new engine and transmission for the 2014 RT, which leads me to think there will also be a refinement learning curve for a year or two. So it would be in my best interest to just wait and see how the new motor and tranny work out, maybe to the 2015 or 2016 model.

They'll never be perfect. It's the ones that fall below that bar that'll ruin your experience.

Just do your home work.

:agree: Right now I'm enjoying my 2012 and there's nothing wrong for being patient.

I tend to agree.
Or at least wait to the end of the season and gett a leftover 2014 when the 2015 come out. That will give everyone s chsnce to debug the 2014.

"Just wait 'til NEXT year...", is the siren song of those who are just afraid to pull the trigger!
There's always something better just around the corner. I'd rather ride, than wait!

As important as the engineered product is, the more important decision is what dealer.
After 4 years or so of reading this forum one unmistakable conclusion can be drawn:

The dealer through good assembly, presale inspection, post sale education and prompt attention to problems makes all the difference in the world.

RR hits the nail right on the head. I was a first year 2008 purchaser, an early SE5 (2009) purchaser, and a Premier Edition 2010 RT-S purchaser. I did not have any major problems with either of the machines. The 2009 main computer went out at 1500 miles, and my dealer took one out of another Spyder rather than keeping us waiting weeks or worse for parts.

My experience has been good. A good dealer, mechanics that got it right the first time--except for one instance--which they got right the second time. A good dealer and servicing makes the difference on your happiness level with the :spyder2:.

2013 was a bad year for problems with new configurations and upgrades. It seems BRP got bit in the rear from all sides.

I am guessing the 2014's are less likely to have problems because BRP surely did their homework in order to avoid another 2013 like year. If that happens, I see problems for the future. I believe in a little watch and see--but am not recommending others to avoid the 2014 RT's with the new engines.

I just wonder ...

... if there was as much pre-2013 anicipation for a better product as we experience right now, expecting to see and hear about new 2014 model?

Oh Yes, the site was rampant with anticipation about the new 2013's ST's and the newely designed front suspensions. The complaints started rolling in about February. The rest is history.

I thought so.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why someone would think any different.
One model year, I think it was 2012's, about the only change was the dash lights went from blue to orange.

Most of us got excited about that.

What would you expect from a group called Spyderlovers?

Oh, Roger, I did not mean to upset you or anyone else for that matter. I just observe how excited we are in anticipation of a new and improved 2014 model and hope (as many of us here) to see that come true. That's all.

There are always going to be refinements. Once this new model is refined, I'm sure there will be yet another newer model released that everyone is going to want that will also need to refined. This purchase decision can only go one of two ways: 1) Do you want the RT with the least reported issues? or 2) Do you want the newest model RT with the new features everyone has been wanting?

Either way, it is a win-win for you. You either get a cool new machine to plan with and work out the kinks, or, you can buy a nice used 2012 model from another board member here; as I know there are several planning to upgrade.

I find having to ride 2+ hours to get to "that" dealer a bit of a PITA.
Mike

Then I suggest that you move closer... :D :joke::joke::joke:
EDIT: No need to move; it's a GREAT two-hour ride to get there!!

Personal opinion? I'd wait, at least until some of the local beta testers chime in with positive reports. 2014 MAY be a big improvement, but I bought a 2013 RT thinking it was an improvement on the '12, with the brake and suspension upgrades, etc. Tho I have not had problems (well, the ball joints and Heims links) I now own a "marked machine". Even Bob Denman is telling folks to steer clear of the '13s. I was so excited to join the community, but I have to say, my confidence in BRP has taken a huge hit. I wish the 2014 buyers well, but once bit, twice shy! Good luck ya'll!

2011 RT runnin-runnin

I have enjoyed reading and getting much good information from this site. The RT was and is my wifes ride while I enjoy my role as support member (oil changer, wash guy and farkle installer). She has accumulated 30,000 plus miles since Nov 2011, and I have a like number on my Honda 2 wheeler. As I get a little older I was looking forward to her getting a new Spyder so I could take her broke-in 11RT and we could both enjoy 3 wheelers as we retire. Now I think we'll just wait---- no the 2011 is running fine, with tires rollin smooth, and me a little more comfortable with the service requirements. Have we had issues? Sure- just as mentioned with a lot of the tire wear, throttle body, tire balance type vibrations others have reported. The dealer and some tweaking on my part have resolved all so far, and I was not concerned with the wifes 800 mile tour last weekend (I had to work).

Whats next? Anxious for you'all (or is it you'ns) to get the 14's tested out so that in another couple of years we can roll on into retirement on a new 2015-16 RT with trailer into retirement!

Once again thanks!!

Thanks for all of your replies, the input is much appreciated. The timing of my waiting things out will be dependent upon how my lower back and right knee will be after any surgeries are done. If all goes well and and I'm still able to hold up two wheels the wait can go on longer. There's still the deal about holding the added weight of my wife on the back, but that's also not a certainty, just depends upon whether or not I'll be weakened from the procedures. If I cannot, then the change to three wheels will come sooner. Time will tell and in the meantime I'll just stay tuned to whatever the 2014 RT owners will be experiencing with their new rides.
